You're forgetting the ideological subversion of our culture though. Way back in the day, you had a ready and willing population that saw an enemy as an enemy. Now, you have most western inhabitants cutting off their nose to spite their face, convinced that the enemy is the person that thinks pumping kids with hormones is wrong, not the (brown)-relevant to the ideology- muslim guy mowing down their coworkers in San Bernadino.
