Islam has been beaten back over and over throughout history, with far fewer resources than we have now. It has never faced anything like the United States, and no one in history has ever been better positioned than we are right now to fight Islam. We have better and more extensive resources than any country, or any pope, ever dreamed of.
And those are only the numbers we know about. Many Muslims leave Islam secretly, fearing for their family ties, social networks, and their very lives (in Islam there is no concept of loving a family member no matter what). Ex-Muslims aren't going to raise more Muslims.
Muslims used to be insulated against hearing any criticism of Islam or any alternatives to Islam. Muslims today live in the West and have access to the internet. Even Muslims who still live in Muslim countries like Pakistan and Iran are increasingly becoming aware of the many criticisms of Islam, as long as they have the internet (which is why those countries are desperate to limit internet access). Around the world, Muslims are now exposed to the reality of what Islam says, teaches, and does, a reality that is no longer filtered for them by their lying imams and "scholars."
Keep in mind this only very recently occurred. This is all brand new in the world of Islam.
The other thing that has changed is that for the past 1400 years, critics didn't have access to Islamic source texts (with rare exceptions, usually in academia). Two of the most popular ahadith (the records of the words and behavior of Mohammed) are Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari, and they were only translated into English in the 1980s and 90s, AFAIK. Many more texts have been translated since then.
Today anyone can download Islamic source texts. We are the first generation in human history who can reach Muslims around the world. We are the first generation with open access to their sources and can use these to refute their vile ideology. That's either an astounding coincidence, or divine intervention, depending on your belief system.
There are many ex-Muslims who will tell you they were spurred by critics to actually read the Koran (most Muslims in the West have not read it, or have only read specific passages selected for them by their imams, and/or have memorizes passages phonetically in Arabic - which they neither read nor speak) and do research to defend Islam and refute its critics... and end up leaving when they uncover truths which no one had ever exposed them to before. And ex-Muslims are some of the most effective critics exposing Islam. They start the snowball effect and keep it going. Ten become one hundred, one hundred become thousands.
Politicians, Hollywood, "journalists," and our schools keep telling Muslims Islam is wonderful - yet Muslims are still figuring out that Islam is false, and leaving it. Imagine what would happen if everyone could be completely honest about Islam, its history, jihad, and the vile pedophile warlord, Mohammed. Islam would cease to be a threat.
Islam cannot survive exposure. Knowledge truly is power.
You're forgetting the ideological subversion of our culture though. Way back in the day, you had a ready and willing population that saw an enemy as an enemy. Now, you have most western inhabitants cutting off their nose to spite their face, convinced that the enemy is the person that thinks pumping kids with hormones is wrong, not the (brown)-relevant to the ideology- muslim guy mowing down their coworkers in San Bernadino.

Islam is crumbling. The backbone of their belief, the "perfect preservation" of the Koran, has been exposed as a lie by their own scholars.
Muslim religiosity is on the decline. Muslims today are less traditional, less focused on fundamentals, less proud of what Islam teaches and does, and more inclined to claim Islam is things it is not - because they dislike the horrific realities of their cult that they are now being exposed to. They are discovering that their imams and sheiks lie, lie, and lie some more.
Muslim population growth is also projected to decline over the next 15 years and then slow to stagnation.
Apostasy is so prevalent that Islamic authorities cannot ignore it. Muslim writers talk about people leaving Islam in flocks (although they falsely blame "extremism" as the cause). In Turkey, the number of people who identify as deists or atheists is growing. Pew research shows the number of Muslims leaving Islam in the U.S. prevents Islam from growing by conversions and The Economist published an article about how the number of ex-Muslims is on the rise here in the U.S.

When did you ever hear about vocal ex-Muslims, a dozen years back? It was rare. Now they're all over social media. Examples: the Apostate Prophet, Abdullah Sameer, Nabeel Qureshi, Christian Prince, One Godless Woman, Sarah Haider, Zara Kay, Yasmine Mohammed, and many more. #AwesomeWithoutAllah exploded on Twitter. There's even a Reddit sub for ex-Muslims. It tends to get brigaded frequently by Muslims but there are still many good stories there. It's worth reading.
