The media publicizes the wall in an attempt to create a new wave of illegal immigrants. The idea is that they present it as a "now or never" situation which causes people to think they need to drop everything and illegally cross the border.

Trump needed to push it in 2016 to get people on board, but I appreciate that it is a quieter subject now.
