Debunked has been in language a long time, it's not new. But for liberals, it's the new "fact check", it's the new meme they can drop at will, when they confront something they don't like, or understand.
They're using it how it's been used for years in the skeptics community to smear alternative ideas.
I don't believe all conspiracy theories, and quacks do need to be called out as quacks - but in the same way people call conservatives "alt-right" or far-right to scare people away from legitimate debate - members of the scientific community have consistently used "debunked" to keep people from independently reviewing verboten topics.
Yeah I figured it was a legitimate word, dug up from the anals of history to be reused present day - the left is the side that plays with words and once one of them learns a new big-word, they all pretend to use it in context.
I wonder what the german version of Debunked was back in 1930s Germany. lol
Yep. I just looked it up, it's origins are around from the turn of the century (1900).
Now that I think about it, it's probably on purpose. BLM/Antifa have taken over "fact check", and if you hadn't noticed, the press and Dems are distancing themselves from them. So they needed a new meme word or phrase.
There's nothing wrong with debunking something. It's just being skeptical about what you hear and trying to see both sides of something and finding where the truth lies inside that.
But the problem is the left misuses the term, much like their other favorite new term "gaslighting". Their version of debunking is having snopes or politifact (or some other far left outfit) take a valid claim, add some outlandish statement to it, then say that the outlandish part they added is false, therefore the entire statement is false, knowing damn well the majority of lazy idiots will only look at the result and not read the details.
For example: "Project Veritas claims Planned Parenthood sells mutilated fetus parts (true) to secret Satanic cults (unverifiable)." They would then say "untrue" because they can't find any secret Satanic cults that buy from Planned Parenthood. Morons would say "See? The claim that Planned Parenthood sells baby parts is untrue!" And then from then on out, any time Project Veritas is brought up, the media will say "Project Veritas, who has been debunked by Snopes, claims [...]"
So they only use it in past-tense implications - something has been debunked... rather than any real attempt to 'debunk' it on the spot by discerning truth from deception.
It's a case closed mentality whereby we can't have this conversation because it's been had elsewhere by others who concluded you're wrong.
Can someone tell me the origin of this stupid term 'Debunked'...
Is something ever 'Bunked' and then 'Debunked' meaning unbunked. WTF does this even mean.
We're spending all our time trying to re-bunk or whatever and we should be telling people who use the word 'Debunked' they're fucking retarded.
"I debunked a bunch of Nazis soldiers trying to evade capture by hiding in that bunker" is the only appropriate use of debunk.
Can you debunk a dumpster fire?

Something bad about Biden? "DEBUNKED"
Something bad about Trump? Snopes verified.

I'm not questioning or calling them out for how they use the word, I'm just pointing out why. That's more important.
I'm not questioning your observation, just finding a good comment to attach my comment to. :)
