Debunked has been in language a long time, it's not new. But for liberals, it's the new "fact check", it's the new meme they can drop at will, when they confront something they don't like, or understand.

Something bad about Biden? "DEBUNKED"

Something bad about Trump? Snopes verified.

They're using it how it's been used for years in the skeptics community to smear alternative ideas.

I don't believe all conspiracy theories, and quacks do need to be called out as quacks - but in the same way people call conservatives "alt-right" or far-right to scare people away from legitimate debate - members of the scientific community have consistently used "debunked" to keep people from independently reviewing verboten topics.

I'm not questioning or calling them out for how they use the word, I'm just pointing out why. That's more important.

I'm not questioning your observation, just finding a good comment to attach my comment to. :)

Yeah I figured it was a legitimate word, dug up from the anals of history to be reused present day - the left is the side that plays with words and once one of them learns a new big-word, they all pretend to use it in context.

I wonder what the german version of Debunked was back in 1930s Germany. lol

Yep. I just looked it up, it's origins are around from the turn of the century (1900).

Now that I think about it, it's probably on purpose. BLM/Antifa have taken over "fact check", and if you hadn't noticed, the press and Dems are distancing themselves from them. So they needed a new meme word or phrase.
