Because they are institutional power. They have responsibilities above and beyond average citizens. They have the monopoly on violence in our society. There is 1,001 reasons the FBI and other law enforcement is absolutely required to hold the bad agents/cops to account. It's literally their jobs! To uphold and protect the laws of this country, including the Constitution. How many FBI or DEA agents do you think bad mouth the unconstitutional ATF? Zero I bet. "But muh sensible gun control!"
The fault is on conservative law enforcement for not taking more responsibility for the republic. You can't expect random garbage men and nurses to solve the problem of corrupt FBI agents. All normal citizens can do is vote, we have no other legal recourse. Any actions besides voting and those agents will lock you up in a dark hole. Make the wrong post online and they send informants to entrap you in bullshit.
These "good conservative agents" just want to sit back, collect their pensions, do their FBI busy work jobs, and turn a blind eye to the rampant corruption of their fellow agents. Then I am supposed to think they are helping by simply voting? That is such a lame cowardly path to take.
I really believe the only way to fix the FBI is through Trump. I am sure there are some pede FBI agents who support the President and the Republic in general. I do not think they are all corrupt. But I am sure it is a small group of brave patriots who are basically operating behind enemy lines.
Your scenario where agents had to wait for the right time to prosecute is possible. Look at the SCOTUS, they haven't taken a 2nd Amendment case in a decade because the conservative justices didn't want to make anti 2A precedents. Those would be near impossible to overturn. But watch now that ACB is on the court. They will start knocking 2A cases out reinforcing gun rights. Or so the theory goes.
