I just ended my online class, and one of my students just said the smartest thing I will hear all year! The story we are working on this week is called "Vote!". The skill that we are working on is point-of-view. Anyways, after reading the story and talking to the kids about how our elections work in the US, one of my students asked if she could tell me her mom's opinion of Joe Biden. I immediately thought “Uh oh. She’s going to tell me how great her mom thinks he is.” I was shocked at what I heard next! Her story was as follows.
“Miss W. say my mom has $100. Well Joe Biden what he wants to do is take that money and give it to the poor people. Poor people sometimes don’t have jobs, and he wants to give my mom’s money that she works for, to them. I think what we should do instead of that, is help poor people. We could help them get a job so that they get their own money. Then they won’t have to take ours.” I was silently celebrating in my head! This kid gets it!! Should I give her an “A” for the rest of the year??
A+ kiddo!
