So, I totally hate google and Alphabet.

However, the free market, capitalist in me doesn't find much wrong with the nuts and bolts of what Google did.

Revenue sharing? Ok..not a big deal. Plenty of companies pay sales commissions and finder's fees. Hell, even in my own little corner of the world, at my company, we've got sales reps who get commissions. We've got distribution agreements with other companies to distribute our products and/or get paid a percentage of a sale.

Paying to make google default search? Ehh.. not ideal, but smart people like us know to switch that to DuckDuckGo.

I DO have a problem, as mentioned above, with how "normies" get their information. But that's not a liberal thing or a google thing; the masses have been consuming mainstream news infotainment forever!

How many of you know "conservatives" who've watched Fox News for decades?

Some of my own family, who all voted for Trump, were AGAINST Trump in 2015-2016 during the primaries, because Fox was clearly supporting Bush, Rubio and Cruz.

Anywho, I'd like to have read this article and thought "Good!" But I don't agree.

And on Breitbart, the top comment is about repealing Section 230.

I'll refer you all to Dan Bongino's podcast #1373 for a beautiful explanation of why Section 230 should NOT be repealed.

(Bongino is an investor in Parler, and he is very strongly AGAINST changing section 230. He thinks it should stay the same. He says they should have filters so you simply mute or ignore people and topics you don't like. Listen to the podcast for his explanation!)

impera 12 points ago +12 / -0

Google also made a number of revenue sharing agreements with major mobile carriers to block competing search engines and browsers, the Justice Department stated.

I agree up to the point where google paid companies to block access to competitor search engines. Its no free-market anything to slowly build a prison around your customers so they cant leave. No choice in the hands of the people, captured customers mean they are prone to any monopoly abuse that google wants to inflict on them etc.

I have that shit deactivated. It's the first thing I do when I get a new phone.

I happened to be a team lunch when one of my coworkers got a "breaking" notification on his phone that Trump was being transported to Walter Reed hospital and the team acted like they had just been informed via the emergency alert service that he died. It was a good reminder how absolutely psychologically damaging tech + msm is designed to be.

What a wild time to be 15... When the world is shoving politics down their throats when they haven't the slightest idea of how the real world operates.

10 years ago when I was that age I was focused on training for hockey, hanging out and doing new stuff with friends and chasing my high school sweetheart. This was normal at that time. Now you must wear a mask and REEE at conservative ideology.

I don't envy the kids today... They really do have an uphill battle towards a mentally stable future.

One of my clients does that. He acts like he’s super political guy and knows what’s up. He started saying stuff that was factually untrue in obvious ways. I asked him where he read that, and he says he reads a set of balanced news sources. I asked where. He said in Google News. I laughed.

He sent me an article about how Kyle was a violent white supremacist. In the first paragraph alone, there were 4-5 factual errors with ample evidence of them being wrong. He eventually felt a lot of cognitive dissonance and stopped talking. I didn’t press him or anything, just told him what was wrong, gave him evidence, and suggested he not use Google News anymore. He didn’t go Trump, but he did stop using it. I didn’t even know that was a thing until he told me.

1
lanman 1 point ago +1 / -0

Aren't u afraid of LOSING clients by engaging in such conversations with them?

2
ClownTamer 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yes, but not with him. I’m pretty sure I can red pill him. I’ve probably red pilled thousands of people over the years, intentionally or otherwise, because I interact with a lot of people.

I’m in the Bay of all places, with most people being hyper leftists. I even work with one lady working for the Biden campaign to get young people registered to presumably vote for him. Fittingly, it’s using highly sexualized material in a likely not legal manner. Most people I work with are actually hyper and vocally left. There probably aren’t many days where they’re not mouthing off to blame Trump for everything you can imagine, including the weather.

This guy’s a gun owner though. Guns and ammo are all sold out across the Bay. Huge but silent conservative wave brewing here. He’s left from when that meant anti-establishment. If I can get him to Trump, I’d consider it an achievement. He’s super into conspiracies, so there’s a lot of material for him to that end too.

I've switched from using Google for over 15 years to DDG and have been using it for 3 years now. However I'm trying to make the switch over to SwissCows (https://swisscows.com/?region=en-US) as some pedes here pointed out that DDG is compromised.

Soros foundation has made several contributions to DDG through their Open Source group so yeah...

Deaf_MAGA_Pede 1 point ago +1 / -0

SwissCows is new to me as well. 4 months ago, I've never heard of SwissCows until I was told that DDG is compromised. I looked up the foundations that have contributed to DDG and I actually found Soros' foundation on the list.

However, SwissCows is a quite different approach to searching so I'm not quite accustomed to that approach but if I can switch from Google after 15+ years to DDG, I can do the same with SwissCows.

As for Brave, that's the browser I'm using right now on my Linux box and it really does the job, blocking unwanted ads and such. You just need to turn off the BAT feature on Brave and use some adblockers. I'd suggest some but apparently my adblocker isn't being mentioned by many here. Others have mentioned uBlocker, AdBlocker etc for which I don't use. I use Ad Nauseam and it really does a terrific job blocking ads.

Oh, it's probably a poorly drawn picture of some (insert non-white ethnicity here, preferably female) person that did some random bullshit that's had a negligible impact on our society. It also could be a drawing of our logo, but it's special because it was hand drawn by some poor kid who's mother convinced she/them to cut her/their dick off. Have a nice day shitlord, keep trying and maybe someday you will be as enlightened and virtuous as your benevolent tech overlords!
