I do not remember the last time the FBI held a press conference during prime time. During 9/11, maybe? The timing of the vital press conference made it seem like there was a major event unfolding that could not wait until business hours. I am on pins and needles and DNI Ratcliffe speaks first. He breaks the news that sketchy unsolicited emails are a scam. Really? This is the news could not wait until regular business hours. I do not remember any FBI prime time news conferences about Nigeran prince emails or fake Indian Microsoft Tech support emails, so why this? Christopher Wray seemed meek and defeated when he took the podium and confirmed DNI Ratcliffe’s statement. To me, if felt like Wray and the FBI had something else planned and Ratcliffe stopped it. My pure speculation is that Wray planned to cast doubt on the authenticity of the Hunter Biden laptop by announcing some sham Russia origins investigation. Ratcliffe stopped it and held the press conference as planned but on a different subject. Pure speculation but that was a weird press conference, nonetheless.

To me it was a very peculiar press conference that seemed like something else was going on. I did come away with the impression that (at a minimum) Ratcliffe was protecting Trump by discrediting the bullshit narrative that the 'Proud Boys are threatening American voters and Trump supports the Proud boys'.
