There's been documented exchanges between John Adams' wife Abigail and Jefferson among others. She also followed her husband overseas when he served as ambassador and Adams himself would comment on the pivotal role she had as a confidant and friend.
So I think it not precise to say all the Founders were straight white men (and stop there). Most were, on top of all, husbands and fathers; their wives influence was felt through the men. Domestic dynamics then were very different than today.
