Honest question: why don’t these kids parents just show up and ask for their children? Do they not know where they are? Or are they hiding in the country and have abandoned their kids? Or do they want to leave their kids here for a chance at a better life?

Some sell them or don't care. They even strap them over the train de la muerte network. But I suspect a lot are paperless because they're kidnaped and there's a big market for that.

Guatemala has baby factories where they literally have girls producing to sell their kids on the U.S. adoption market. Edit: kind of off topic- but the point is many are detached monsters and don't care about their kids. Parents sell kids into the sex slave trade all the time. It's sick.

Happens here as well. More kids= more welfare, and then they are the school districts problem.
