As an expat in Switzerland, I can confirm the lengthy process to prove you are vital to live here. Even if one spouse has a job to sponsor the residence permit, the other spouse has to get clearance, and provide proof of their education/degrees and can be held back to be formally 'reunified' later in the country. Then you have to renew the residency permit in another year.

You cannot even open a bank account without a proven source of income (aka a job)...and with out a bank account, since everything is digital here, there extra steps to pay your bills. Good luck paying your bills.

And health insurance is totally on your own, work only covers one part of the person who is employed and not the spouse. Our estimated annual out of pocket cost (before insurance kicks in) is CHF 17,000 just to be covered for two people.
