Many businesses were pissed because they specifically work to keep politics out of their employees work environment and this payroll service abused their trust and emailed their woke letter to every one of their employees and even had the gall to state they had a right to do so under the 1st amendment.
I can tell you, one of my companies knucklehead employees sent a corporate wide e-mail when jerry garcia died. She was fired by 10am. It costs that much.
It's a US company, but as a Canadian you can still sue in US court. Each separate email in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act is subject to penalties of up to $42,530.
We specifically have fired people for spewing politics in company email internally (this became a permanent rule after a knock-down drag-out flame war happened in an email chain early this year.)
I can see lots and lots and lots of cancelled contracts.
Expensify is a small San Francisco company....7 employees...5 members on board of directors...10 investors. The CEO is one of the two founders (founded 2008).
I am wondering if the CEO ran this little stunt by his Board of Directors (who are supposed to prevent idiot elitist CEOs from doing stuff lie this) before doing this or -- more importantly -- by his 10 investors, who might not be too thrilled with losing part of their investment.
By telling us they are based in San Franshitsco I can imagine what type of morons are on the board of directors. They're all too excited to watch the ship sink for their self righteous woke culture.
This explains the CEO's stupid post about how they 'talked it over'.
They're a bunch of faggot San Francisco soycucks, so they thought everyone in the country was a cockgargling traitor commie like they were, because "everyone I know agrees with me!"
Yep, this is an egregious abuse of the provider/customer relationship and this clown CEO needs to be held personally responsible along with the company itself. I hope they are sued into oblivion.
I used the website like once in 2011 and have been getting emails since then. When I got this it was finally what I needed to hit the unsubscribe button, but not before explaining what a pedophile lover he was.
I work for a company comprised of some 2000 physicians with $15,000 annual expense accounts. They are, by my estimate, at least 75% Trump voters. They are boiling mad and Expensify is almost certain to lose the account.
I'm sorry, but didn't you read the email? It was his right to email you that letter under the 1st amendment. You and your associates have got a lot of nerve questioning his decision!
Sort of like, umm, I dunno, a certain spaz Spez using direct database access to change certain people's comments on a certain site we told to fuck off. . . .
My company is pretty large and we got the email. Our HR director already emailed the company to say they’re looking for a new vendor starting immediately
Perhaps not all your staff agree with Mr Trump, but one thing is for sure, a contracted vendor should stick to providing their services at a competitive price.
I would imagine that half our company is Pro Trump, half no, just because we have one office in GA and the other in California. I heard from a lot of employees who were f’n pissed.
I don't see anywhere in here that would let them classify this email as a "transactional or relationship message". This would be the equivalent of the Biden campaign harvesting emails and using them for political marketing. I'm sure someone in the legal community can find something illegal about this and hit the company.
Honestly, if I got a partisan email from a vendor, that would end the relationship immediately and probably vote the opposite as you suggest just out of principle
I dunno, I may leave the service, but shoes flipped, there's no way in fucking hell I would flip from Trump to Biden. I think it depends on how political a person is. As a business owner I would be pissed because I would not want politics discussed in the workplace. I may disagree with Biden or even Hillary supporters, but as a boss I would respect my employees right to support who they want. Were a letter like this for either candidate to flow to my employees from some service I contract with, and bring politics into my employees work environment, I would drop them, even if they were hardcore Trump. No person should be shamed for their political position or bullied because everyone else around them is a Trump supporter and they are a Biden supporter (even if they are a fucking low information idiot), or vice versa.
Yeah it’s 1st Amendment protected but I don’t go around yelling at people, despite being protected, because it’s a dogshit way to conduct yourself.
If your CEO or leadership/board at that level supported this, expect the shareholders to clean house for malfeasance of fiduciary duty to maintain/grow market share.
I think this violated several laws around the globe as well (seeing a lot of pissed of Canadians which is quite impressive). Going to guess that this company will not be around much longer.
The egos that tech CEOs get is difficult to comprehend. Also, they are so consumed by the Silicon Valley mindset they assume the whole world thinks like them and Trump voters are a small portion of people in the bayous of Louisiana that can't spell. They literally think this.
lololll can just imagine soros-org's expense reports: "reimb for rioting" "fee for committing arson" "bail for felons" "bribes for votes" "bribes for cornpop"
I like that they never discuss the education level of blacks and the third world who vote for Democrats nor do they mention that high school dropouts overwhelmingly vote Democrat.
This is great in a lot of ways because it shows how desperate they are. This CEO was willing to throw himself, his business, his corporate partners, his investors, and even his employees into the fire to prevent another Trump term. They're coming unglued. And while that certainly means we're winning, it also makes our opponents unpredictable.
This NOT the first giant wall of text this clown has posted to all accounts. There was some shit about their scammy 501c3, their “concierge” service that no one would ever use, and their own credit card scam.
So they admit they illegally sent unsolicited marketing? The guy literally asked for people to vote for Biden so he can make money, ala, business marketing campaign. Someone please hit them with the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003.
I work for a Silicon Valley company that uses Expensify. All our employees got the email. I forwarded mine to our CFO asking him to please find another company, due to the email being unprofessional. He replied saying he was getting a lot of other employees saying a similar thing and that he is taking steps to stop using them. We have hundreds and hundreds of employees.
My god, I love those comments. Hopefully they can find a way to sue this dude for overstepping. The email subs are for updates and news regarding the service/product. Also some have mentioned that the value of the 10,000,000 email endorsement can be regarded as an in kind contribution to the campaign. Love it when businesses go woke.
Here's the email, I got it at fucking 2:30am waking me up
I know you don’t want to hear this from me. And I guarantee I don’t want to say it. But we are facing an unprecedented attack on the foundations of democracy itself. If you are a US citizen, anything less than a vote for Biden is a vote against democracy.
That’s right, I’m saying a vote for Trump, a vote for a third-party candidate, or simply not voting at all -- they’re all the same, and they all mean:
“I care more about my favorite issue than democracy. I believe Trump winning is more important than democracy. I am comfortable standing aside and allowing democracy to be methodically dismantled, in plain sight.”
If the polls are accurate, there’s a roughly 50% chance that you agree Trump needs to go. You know what to do: show up on November 3rd and vote for Biden. Or even better, don’t wait until then: vote today. Go to Vote.org if you need help figuring out how.
The rest of this email is intended to address the concerns of those who disagree, and I’ll try to take the most likely questions in turn:
Q: Why do you care so much about democracy?
Democracy is core to our business success, in a variety of ways. Internally, we are a famously “flat” organization -- nobody reports to anyone else, and advancement is the result of meeting well defined criteria as judged by the vote of those who have already advanced. How we compensate each other is left up to a team vote as well. Even our external business model depends on individual employees “electing” to adopt Expensify as individuals, and then “campaigning” internally to get it adopted companywide. At every layer, democracy is our core competitive advantage -- both as a company, and as a nation. But that advantage is only as strong as the clarity of our rules and the fairness of their application. Any attempt to disrupt the rules or apply them unfairly is a direct threat to the strength of our company, and the strength of our nation.
Q: What gives you the right to tell me what to do?
The first amendment. To be clear, you don’t need to listen. But the first amendment exists to encourage people like you and me to find some way to talk about the issues that matter, set aside our differences, and find a common ground on which to collectively govern 331 million citizens. Yes democratic self-rule can be inconvenient. But a burden of democracy is that this is literally our job, so I’m asking all of us to take it seriously.
Q: But you’re a company, shouldn’t you remain neutral?
Expensify depends on a functioning society and economy; not many expense reports get filed during a civil war. As CEO of this business, it’s my job to plot a course through any storm -- and all evidence suggests that another 4 (or as Trump has hinted -- 8, or more?) years of Trump leadership will damage our democracy to such an extent, I’m obligated on behalf of shareholders to take any action I can to avoid it. I am confident our democracy (and Expensify) can survive a Biden presidency. I can’t say the same about Trump. It’s truly as simple as that.
Q: Don’t you think you’re… exaggerating a bit?
I truly wish I was. I wouldn’t be sending this email if this election were just about “normal issues” -- taxes, legislative priorities, healthcare, etc. But it isn’t. This election is a referendum on what limits, if any, we place on our elected leaders to govern us in a fair and representative way. This election will decide if widespread voter suppression is an acceptable governing tactic.
Q: Doesn’t everyone suppress votes?
Not like Trump. This is the most heavily litigated election in history, with over 300 lawsuits rushing through the courts before election day. And in every case, Biden is pushing to enable voters while Trump is pushing to suppress them. The trend couldn’t be more clear: Biden wants democracy, Trump does not. A vote for Trump is to endorse voter suppression, it really is very basic. This isn’t about party politics: if Biden were advocating for half of the voter suppression that Trump is actively doing, then I'd be fighting against Biden, too. This is bigger than politics as usual: this is about the very foundation of our nation.
Q: Isn’t Trump just trying to prevent voter fraud?
Voter fraud is virtually nonexistent, as overwhelmingly shown by data showcased by the White House itself. That data comes from the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank counting every single known case of voter fraud since 1948, which adds up to only 1,290 distinct votes over 78 years. In 2016 alone there were 138 million votes. There is just no credible argument that voter fraud is significant, even based on Trump’s own data.
Q: Isn’t Biden just using more widespread voting to get elected?
Absolutely. This is the heart of the issue. Biden believes that enabling more people to vote will help him win. Biden wins by promoting democracy; Trump wins by suppressing it. A vote for Biden is a vote for democracy.
Q: So what if Trump gets elected by voter suppression, all’s fair right?
Well that’s what we’re going to decide, on November 3rd. Do you want your elected official to win based on the merits of their ideas? Or based on the ruthlessness of their voter suppression? And if you’re ok with “just a little suppression” -- where do you draw the line?
Q: Why send me this when the polls say Biden is going to win?
The polls said Trump was going to lose last time, and he didn’t. But even if the polls can be trusted, that might still not be enough. Trump has stated repeatedly he will only honor an election that he personally feels is fair. So much depending on his personal judgement is worrying, because he has rejected the overwhelming expert consensus that voter fraud has been negligible historically, and has also said he believes it would be impossible to lose a fair election. Accordingly, the only way to ensure a peaceful transition of power is to ensure this election is an overwhelming, undeniable landslide in favor of Biden. Any excuse to question the election is an opportunity for Trump to refuse to leave the White House, plunging this country into a Constitutional crisis bordering on civil war. No matter how slight that risk might be, the consequences of it happening would be so catastrophic to society and the economy, we need to do all we can to prevent it.
So one final plea. As a fellow citizen, I fully support and respect your Constitutional right to disagree -- and as an avid supporter of democracy, I value that disagreement. Constructive, well-informed debate (hopefully using the most accurate, least biased news source available) is what makes this nation so exceptional.
But the Constitution is only as strong as the respect we give it. I’m asking you to cherish it close to your heart, and demand that those you elect do the same.

Was working on an expensify integration for one of my projects/Clients. That just got canned.
Honestly, we were going to pay them XXXX amount to basically be a phone app and receipt scanner. It will cost us xxxxxx to build our own in a cross platform App way. Well make the money back in 3 years.
To be honest, we're trying not to be tied to SAP, for legal reasons.
Honestly, it's easy. At this point I already let them email/text receipts to us, and start a process. To make an app that allows for additional details, and a disconnected mode, not to hard.
Hmmm, I wonder what this company's email provider would have to say if some of those 10 million recipients reported him for spamming them? He really screwed the pooch on this one. Sending out unsolicited political emails to folks on their (most likely) work email accounts is not a smart move. Not at all.
It went to all of the employees of business owners. Imagine if you had a business of 200 people and you worked to keep the environment politically free because you knew how emotionally driven politics can make people and harm your work environment, and then all of a sudden your employees got a crazy TDS email from this company you contract through, that has been nothing more to your company than to keep payroll straight, talking about shit like Civil War and Orange Man Bad. That's why everyone is pissed.
It went to ANY email address, who has ever tried their software. We evaluated it briefly and never never touched it again. You can bet we got the email, I replied to him on Twitter.
I know, and it is heinously inappropriate, isn't it? Who in their right mind would think it's okay to abuse the information collected from your customers in such an obviously unwanted way?
I hope some, if not all, of the recipients report Expensify's spamming to whoever provides email services for Expensify. They should all also mark the emails as spam. That'll definitely get the provider's attention if their mail servers get blacklisted.
Just unbelievable how little sense the left has sometimes...
If they have their own servers and are sending from their own domain/IP, then that is what will get blacklisted with enough reports. That would shut down their business pretty darn quickly until they come up with another email solution.
If they're hosted in the cloud and they get enough reports, then their provider would most likely cancel them. Again, that would be a big hit to their ability to conduct business.
If I was providing/hosting a mail server and they came to me, I would be VERY hesitant to take on their business since they've already shown a complete lack of industry knowledge on just how negatively impactful this could be for them or anyone who hosts their mail service. Who wants to expose their own mail servers to dimwits who might very well get them blacklisted as well? Yikes!
So potential black listings and loss of capability to communicate and conduct business, huge backlash from existing customers - some of whom will cancel their contracts, and a huge negative hit to their reputation. Yep, this was a bonehead decision all the way around.
I, for one, would like to see the FEC Form 3 for this In-Kind donation. I'm sure they charge a pretty penny to send an email to every address in their database.
Are there any companies based in San Francisco that aren’t fully authoritarian leftist? At this point I’m thinking it’s good to avoid putting your own company at risk by signing a contract with anything near these loose canon CEOs.
How much VC for this company came from China? Is SF occupied territory by the CCP?
A fairly big player in the expense account SAAS game. They were at least, the fines from GDPR alone will bankrupt the company before we get into CAN-SPAM and FEC filing requirements. They are toast.
Most of the people emailed actually pay taxes and therefore don't take kindly to Biden's policy.
It's a software service for managing employees' expense reports. If you run a company for which employees get to expense, umm, expenses, then you might use them.
... someone named their company "Expensify". At least they are living up to the name. Biden winning and lefty riots would make everything more expensive.
He just joined the retard club. Some of the better known members are the CEO's of companies like Gillette, Dicks sporting goods, NooseCAR, all the sportsball organizations as well as hundreds of other "woke" companies. Fuck all y'all and your stock holders. I vote with my dollars.
A "civil war" of some sort is coming regardless of who wins. I just want Trump in charge when it goes down since the majority of the military will likely follow the directions of the president that was elected. It may seem Debbie downerish but it's sort of a natural human response to government corruption!

This cunt and other Pedocrats said Trump would start a war yet, the Pedocrats tried with their far left wing army Anqueefa. They destroyed black owned business.
buh-bye clients. People hate politics in sports and I'm sure they aren't fond of it being in there face when doing business.
Many businesses were pissed because they specifically work to keep politics out of their employees work environment and this payroll service abused their trust and emailed their woke letter to every one of their employees and even had the gall to state they had a right to do so under the 1st amendment.

WHAT IS THE VALUE OF EMAILING 10M AMERICAN WORKERS? Probably millions, if not more.
Which means they have gone over legal limits.
Dinesh D’Souza has entered the chat..

Still miss Jerry!
He deserves a better ice cream company than Unilever.
You know I watched that last interview with him, like 8 hours long. me too.
Even at 1 cent per email. That’s still way over the limit. I don’t predict his board will be to happy when they lose a percentage of their customers.
1 cent an email is still quite exepensive.
it's laughable since he said something about it was his responsibility to make sure the company was around. He may have fucked up

Until section 230...their time is near.
Is Hunter on the board?
Shhhh Hunter will hear his name being used and call you up to bum $20 for crack.
Hell, I'd probably give it to him for leaving his laptops like he did.
Only if you say his name 3 times!
He’d probably settle for about tree fiddy

Yep sure looks like an in-kind campaign contribution which I think Biden has to report
This would be easy to quantify because companies charge for sponsored sends all the time. However they only sell opt-ins.
you mean Trump, because that e-mail just red pilled 10m people lmao.

What about all the companies preaching BLM stuff in their emails over the summer?
unsubscribed to all their emails and will not be using their services again
Wonder if his terms of service allow for unsolicited political diatribes.

Live in SF. Can confirm.
They think Trump supporters are uneducated idiots. So classist!
The left isn’t smart.
Just smug and full of themselves
lololll can just imagine soros-org's expense reports: "reimb for rioting" "fee for committing arson" "bail for felons" "bribes for votes" "bribes for cornpop"
They always use the "muh college uneducated white males vote drumpf" too!
I like that they never discuss the education level of blacks and the third world who vote for Democrats nor do they mention that high school dropouts overwhelmingly vote Democrat.
Exactly! It's all "hurr durr stupid whites" and "dems are educated so it PROVES our ideas are better"
Do you not want to move as far away as possible from there?
I grew up here and my family is here. Plus it’s a beautiful place with lots of nature close by. Its not that simple unfortunately...
Then, that is their downfall.
This is great in a lot of ways because it shows how desperate they are. Unpredictable means dangerous.
self-fulfilling prophecy: He imagined that his company will go under if Trump won; now his company will go under and Trump will win.

Expensify is a fucking CLOWN SHOES company.
10 mm people? This has to be some kind of FEC violation
Not to mention CAN-SPAM violation.
Yea, their send from url should be forever blacklisted
I blocked this account at the exchange level company wide today.
https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/filing-reports/in-kind-contributions/
Hey wait a minute does this guy have my 10mm socket? FFS I have been looking for that thing.
Haha, well, I was going for 1000*1000 🤣
Bring it.
I'm sick of sharing this earth with people who want to kill me and threaten me with violence if I dare exercise my God-given rights.
Bring it.
Let's make America great again!
Exactly. Come down and engage us in our territory. I ain't going to Portland
Yep. I don't even reach for my gun unless it is so dire I'd accept prison time. Then I keep pulling the trigger until the threat is completely gone.
If cops want to disarm me, I'll raise my hands and let them pull my pistol out of my holster. I'm not moving towards it.
I, for one, am looking forward to when Antifa hunting season begins November 4.
He threatened civil war to all of his employees' clients if they didn't vote for Biden.
So they admit they illegally sent unsolicited marketing? The guy literally asked for people to vote for Biden so he can make money, ala, business marketing campaign. Someone please hit them with the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003.
$10k per email.
Ouch.
That's $100 billion
They better get on that, because accounts receivable is about to take a huge hit.
I'm sure that it is in their TOS.
Yeah one client in comments specifically mentioned that as well.
I'm in the US too, we just have to be careful with data. Look up "GDPR", this could be considered a gross violation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation
The fines from those are pretty nice as well. 10 million or 4% of global turnover (whichever is higher).
Goddamn. Mail/wire fraud is no laughing matter.
TDS in their TOS?
I cracked up at the Canadian and Switzerland client.
The EU will bankrupt them for this, it's like 4% of your last years operating profit...per violation. F (for his employees and investors)
Could you elaborate on what the violation is exactly? For us burgers here in America.
I'm in the US too, we just have to be careful with data. Look up "GDPR", this could be considered a gross violation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation
Just wondering, how is it a privacy violation?
I assume the mailing list was all BCC so no one saw any one else's email addresses, right?
They can't count each individual e-mail as a violation, then.
Ok finally worked, the funny thing is he thinks hes FIGHTING voter suppression, when all he is doing is threatening violence.
Democracy: 'A system of government where Democrats are always in charge.'
yup. This CEO is apparently another one who doesn't comprehend that we live in a constitutional republic, not a democracy. Democracy is mob rule.
The pathetic fuck even snuck in a whimper about the electoral college!
I'll bet the trump boat parades just grew in size.

PPS: Want to do even more? Support the National Popular Vote to make every vote count equally toward the presidential election, even if you aren’t in one of the 12 states deciding this election.
PPPS: Are you annoyed that you received this as a non-US citizen? If you're lucky enough to live in a democracy, then I'd encourage you to protect it and be willing to do uncomfortable things -- like emailing millions of customers -- to defend it.

Fuck everyone who supports NPV.
I can imagine your furrowed eyebrows and look of disgust as you read the email with a "R u fucking kidding me?!" thought at the end of it.
Where does his "most accurate, least biased news source available" link to?
I think we know. Lol
Thanks for sharing this email. Wow this was worse than I thought. CEO deserves to be fired. What a nut job.
And he sent this to everyone at 2:30am? WTF 🤯
I'll bet he was drunk, like a drunk text.
To be fair I got it at like 11am central or so.
he actually says "hit me up"? Get fucked, faggot
This sounds like a contribution.
Was working on an expensify integration for one of my projects/Clients. That just got canned.
Honestly, we were going to pay them XXXX amount to basically be a phone app and receipt scanner. It will cost us xxxxxx to build our own in a cross platform App way. Well make the money back in 3 years.
How about SAS Concur? That's what we use and I didn't get a faggy email this morning
Excellent! I hope more people follow your lead.
I don't think there is any company that would let even a paying customer send 10 million emails at once.
They likely have their own email severs on premises.
If the servers are hosted in the cloud, however, their provider would have a reason to cancel them for spamming.
Hope they sue these woke losers

I, for one, would like to see the FEC Form 3 for this In-Kind donation. I'm sure they charge a pretty penny to send an email to every address in their database.
Or are they above election law?
ExpensiBye!
We need a master list of all the traitor companies so we can know who not to do business with
I hope this guy gets 10 million emails laughing at him after the election.
Are there any companies based in San Francisco that aren’t fully authoritarian leftist? At this point I’m thinking it’s good to avoid putting your own company at risk by signing a contract with anything near these loose canon CEOs.
How much VC for this company came from China? Is SF occupied territory by the CCP?
lol it’s hilarious, the letter is basically just orange man bad zero facts emotional appeal, what a loser...sad
do you want to lose clients? because this is how you lose clients
I think someone just went out of business
What’s Expensify?
A fairly big player in the expense account SAAS game. They were at least, the fines from GDPR alone will bankrupt the company before we get into CAN-SPAM and FEC filing requirements. They are toast.
Most of the people emailed actually pay taxes and therefore don't take kindly to Biden's policy.
I don’t know what this company sells or does but so help me God, if I’m ever in a position to boycott them, I will.
Edit- for whatever it’s worth, this is taken from the company’s twitter page: founder and CEO David Barrett @dbarrett
It's a software service for managing employees' expense reports. If you run a company for which employees get to expense, umm, expenses, then you might use them.
Love the explanation, thank you!
... someone named their company "Expensify". At least they are living up to the name. Biden winning and lefty riots would make everything more expensive.
That's not just massively stupid, that's a breach of trust that might be illegal. Either way, this company is now toast.
He just joined the retard club. Some of the better known members are the CEO's of companies like Gillette, Dicks sporting goods, NooseCAR, all the sportsball organizations as well as hundreds of other "woke" companies. Fuck all y'all and your stock holders. I vote with my dollars.
I hope Expensify goes out of business!
A "civil war" of some sort is coming regardless of who wins. I just want Trump in charge when it goes down since the majority of the military will likely follow the directions of the president that was elected. It may seem Debbie downerish but it's sort of a natural human response to government corruption!
Here’s the ScREEEEEEEEd if anyone want to read it
TLDR: don’t vote trump because “muh democracy!”
