I am trying to figure out how or if I can source food locally from farmers and such.

Search for farmers markets within a 25 mile radius of where you live and start getting produce from them. Buy enough so that you can freeze or can things to get you through the winter. Find a butcher shop to buy your meats.

If you like to cook and use herbs you can easily grow your own herbs inside. You can grow potatoes in a large outdoor pot. You don't even have to do anything except get a potato, let it sit until it grows eyes, get a big pot, some potting soil and fertilizer and throw the potato in the potting soil. It will start growing more potatoes. Herbs are super easy to grow. I've grown cilantro, basil, and rosemary. Rosemary will get big like a bush so if you put it in a big pot and prune it to shape you can also use it for decor at your front door or on your balcony/patio.

Also, my daughter has been in Japan for 2 years. She says it's mostly the older generation that's racist toward white people. She has also commented on how homogeneous their country is, though.
