(Using sabermetrics made famous by Billy Beane) Then one day he believed he could create a method to predict elections using polls. it's garbage in, garbage out mixed in with Nate untested methodology of weighting polls and pulling numbers out of his head with no rhyme or reason.

This is Stats 101: If something has 50/50 chance of "win", then probability (P) = 1/2 (1 in 2). If there is probability something else happens (AND): multiply by that probability ( P2 = 1/2)
P1 × P2 = (1/2)×(1/2) = 1/4 = 0.25 = 25% chance both things will occur.
So ignoring that his probability values are wrong, his logic and basic math is wrong as well.
