Do you have a lost package? (this form seems to work wonders, or at least for me it works every time - for some reason I can't load it right now? But it's linked on usps.com and it should work...)
For the most part USPS has been very good for me; private couriers have been a little more problematic in my opinion
If it says "in transit, arriving late" for, maybe, 5 days, then fill out the form anyway. It alerts your city's postmaster (or a computer acting as your postmaster, I don't know) and, maybe, depending on where it's at, the manager at a sorting center. Maybe. All the responses that I get are signed with my city's postmaster, at least.

not lost (apparently) but extremely late, thanks for the lead will def use that if its a no-show
