I think that President Trump should replace one of his rallies in a relatively safe state like Florida, which even mainstream polls indicate he's ahead, and take a few hours to visit his hometown.
It wasn't that long ago that New York state had a Republican governor (Pataki) and NYC had a Republican mayor (Rudy). As recently as the 90's. Unlike most major cities that have been Dem-run for years, NYC hasn't been.
President Trump is from Queens and a lot of people in NYC, probably even some Dems, still like the things The Donald did as a businessman there. They saw how he helped turn the city around by investing and building there when it was still a crime-ridden shithole (the first time, that is). In fact The Donald even got his nickname from there.
Hasidic Jews love Trump and held a rally for him after Cuomo unfairly targeted them. Pennsylvania is only a two-hour drive away so maybe he could also do this on a day he otherwise would've been in PA. Guarantee you his PA supporters would show up too. Remember the fundraiser Trump held in CA? That wasn't even a rally, but there was still huge turnout on the sidewalks around.
I think that even though NY is a deep blue state, lots of leftists have fled from the policies they created, and voted to recreate them. Along with CA and IL, they made states like CO go blue. But by that logic, there's a lot fewer of them in supposed Dem "strongholds." A lot of New Yorkers who may otherwise vote for Trump, especially swing voters, might feel like it's not as important because "he'd never win NY." NYC is 24% black and he can also appeal to them with his excellent record on improving the black community in America.
I say you gotta take a risk sometimes. Trump should visit New York and remind voters there of his pledge to reopen the economy and restore law and order. Have Rudy speak, too. Remind them of his accomplishments in that city. It'd be a hail mary, but remember what happened when Trump went to Cali.
What do you all think?
That would be awesome, but definitely impractical. Of all of the blue wall states, I don't think Donald Trump has any chance of winning Hawaii, CA, or WA, or MA. It would be nice if he did, but of all of the deep blue states, NY is where I believe he has the best shot of putting it into play. He has so much history there, and the Republican party has been in power in NY relatively not that long ago compared to places that have been Dem-run forever. He was an admired businessman there not even five years ago. So he and the GOP actually have a more recent record to run on in NY. His promises of re-opening the economy and defeating COVID would also have massive appeal to the city, and state, that's had the worst economic damage and crime thanks to its totally incompetent leadership.
Especially with how well Trump has been polling nationally (and I'd imagine in NY if anybody would poll it) with black voters, and Hasidic Jews, Hispanics, etc. The Democrat party relies on 80%+ support from those groups, especially in NYC. It's a major, major weak spot for them. Hawaii I don't think is a weak spot, but maybe a Pede from there could make a case for it.
