I don't care for Piper at all because I think Reformed theology is a twisting of the true gospel and is what has led to a lot of the "wokeness" you see in churches. My former church was torn apart by it, and I kept telling my husband that many of the Reformed pastors are like Democrats - arrogant, know-it-alls who are blind to the truth.
Now that you know my bias, I will say that I don't hold a politician to the same standard as I would a pastor or even a brother and sister in Christ. I vote based on who will most protect my freedom to worship. I vote for someone who does not actively promote evil like abortion. Trump is not a perfect man, but I do appreciate that he has always been honest about who he is and his sins. I keep think of Esther and how God puts people in positions "for such a time as this." Ironically, it seems like Esther was a fairly secular Jewish woman who hid in plain sight in the palace. God can and will use anyone, and often does it in unexpected ways through unexpected people. That's how we know it's a miracle from Him because no human could have done this.
By the way, I’m sorry to hear this. Sadly, it’s something I have heard quite often from many different people around the country. This neo reformed stuff is damaging a lot of churches...
The good news is God put me in a place to expose what was going on so most people saw the truth. All of this happened around the Kavanaugh hearings, and I truly felt like God used Trump and that situation to give the courage to stand even though I was being called a liar and a heretic. God is good all the time.
This is how I’ve always thought. I can’t fathom voting for sometime bc their personality is better than the other person meanwhile everything they stand for is polar opposite of your faith.
The neo-reformed weirdos are like a cult. Just look at what happened with Mars Hill and Mark Driscoll. They attract insecure narcissists by the hundreds.
And there has been a ton of sexual abuse allegations throughout their churches that was hidden. Another commonality with the Democratic party.
If I am reading Piper correctly, he is eschewing voting altogether... and this is out of line with Christ's words to "Render unto Caesar". We have an obligation and duty to vote under the Republic, and it is out of the will of God to simply cast it aside.
Yeah, if we are going to hold all politicians equally to some Christian idea of “sin” then wouldn’t all politicians be disqualified?

I think its off base.
First, liberalism only leads to death, destruction, and loss of freedom.
To attempt to create a moral equivalency between abortion and arrogance or some other socially unacceptable trait is a bridge to far.
Personally, I don't see how someone can call themselves Christian and support policies that are advocated by the Democrat party. I have plenty of problems with Republican's also.
Trump on the other hand is fighter. Many of the traits that he references and that some find objectionable are Trump fighting back. I'm not going to tell you that Trump would have been considered the ideal guy for the Presidency. I'm also a huge Ted Cruz fan. I consider him a giant among Constitutional scholars.
Likewise, would anyone have imagined a man that persecuted Christians would become the author of much of the New Testament? Well God did. He essentially said, SAUL OF TARSUS YOU'RE MY GUY! Resume wise, personal history, precedent, whatever, would not have justified Saul becoming Paul.
The Lord works in mysterious ways.
What we do know is that for all his flaws, TRUMP has been the most prolife president in the history of this nation. Trump has defended religious liberty. Has Trump a personal epiphany? None of us know. But his policies have been favorable to the Christian community.
Trump did not identify a movement and capitalize on it. A movement that had already formed, said to an unlikely choice, TRUMP, YOU'RE OUR GUY!

Doubtless that's why Trump put him on his SCotUS list. Is some Fox News good guy (i.e. Carlson, Hannity, Ingraham, ...maybe Gutfeld, certainly not Wallace) I think, but Ted Cruz said in an interview that he's a brawler and wouldn't want to be a JotSC.
Okay, for the rest... I think there really needs to be a distinction between sin and crime in the law: the law is to punish the latter, it's not the purpose of the law to condemn the former, only put up the boundaries. Got some Matthew 5:17-30 and Galatians 3:19-21 :)
I respect Piper, but I can’t understand this point of view. I get what he is saying about the sin of pride, but I can’t help think he’s not really seeing who trump is. I think this perfect polished candidate over an imperfect with good actions is crazy.
Piper has been a cuck for a long time. He’s a super weird guy. One time he said women shouldn’t go to the gym because they shouldn’t be stronger than a guy. (Google his picture and when you see his tiny little body you’ll understand why he would feel threatened by a fit woman).
On another occasion he said that he would never want a woman to save his life. He would rather die first. I believe the hypothetical example was a mugging or robbery or something.
He also said that a woman shouldn’t leave if her husband abuses her. She should stay there in the home.
He also said people should rethink having pets because the attention you give them distracts you from God. I thought it was a Babylon Bee article, but it wasn't.

...I don't know who he's talking about because the circles of Christians that I know aren't split in their opinions in this way - and if they are, because toxic and deadly are actually synonyms. I tried going further, but there really seems to be a language barrier - i.e. 1 Corinthians 14:9. I find his writing style confusing and really hard to sort out.
For those who don’t know, piper has long fancied himself a “scholar among pastors.” He tries really hard to come across as educated and academic, which usually results in an unnecessarily complicated and long-winded writing style.
He needs to just go away and live out his days in quiet retirement...
