All you can do is fight the bullshit going on here. As it's going right now? I don't see Canada lasting as a country past 2030, it's far more likely to break up into individual countries and Ottawa is the prime driver of making it happen.
I'll say one thing though. if a western province says "fuck it, we're out." I'll move there from Ontario and let Toronto destroy the rest of the province.
Western provinces were mumbling about it 40 years ago, and that's as far as it got. No provincial leader was floating the idea, it's happened in Saskatchewan and Alberta. No provincial leaders threatened to cut off exports of natural gas and oil to other provinces because they're blocking rail and pipelines.
The situation is vastly different from Trudeau Sr.'s day.
To be honest, we haven't seen the statements and people even starting political parties in western canada over separation. Not even when the NEP was introduced by Trudeau Sr., and medicare was forced on every province. Things are far more shaky today then 40 years ago, especially since the feds outright refuse to use the government to ensure that provinces can get product to market.
I mean, how fucked up is this? We now ship oil from Alberta to BC. Then ship it from BC to eastern canada by tanker. Because there is no pipeline, and rail lines are already backed up shipping other product.
The cities in Ontario do, rural ontario almost always goes conservative. The only time the liberals won the riding here federally was when the Reform Party and PC party split the vote 25.5 to both sides. It was same in the riding I grew up in.
Quebec? Well a lot of the heavy voting areas, that vote like that are mostly people who work in the ottawa area and live in Quebec for lower taxes and better medicare. Colour me shocked on that.

The western provinces have been threatening that for decades, but I have yet to see any action.

Separating has become more serious in the West, but it's not likely. I wish it was.

Yes, Canada has a lot of shit to sort out. It's a mess. I'd like to see our political system overhauled. Ontario/Que decide every election.
