Foks, we have to build our own systems. We have the people to do this.

Leftists are trying to exclude us from society. They don't want us as customers or anything else. We have to go around them on everything. That is the only way all of this stops. We have to build our own PayPal, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, Banking systems, Entertainment - sports, film, music, and practically everything.

We don't need them. All the talent (and money) is right here.

This is the only future proof solution.

Stop pretending the government can fix this. Build the future you want to see.

Like to see the Trump kids found media (social and news) platforms after the election. After 2024 the real "Big Guy" could be the face of these endeavors. It would be YUUGE.

The files are fine.Youtube-dl would only break for downloading new files since they change the way to access the raw files every once in a while.

Twitter thread says there's a GitHub bug that allows people to commit code to repos they don't control. He commited the youtube-dl code into GitHub's own DMCA notice information repo.

If you do want to self-host, there is a GitLab Community Edition (i.e. free) https://about.gitlab.com/install/?version=ce

I actually installed youtube-dl yesterday, after the takedown. If you know where to look, you can find it.

This also is a weakness of "If you don't like YouTube, make your own clone." That doesn't work when you get banned from payment processors and banned from hosting.

Yep. I've used Internet Download Manager for years. Works just fine for YouTube vids.

Just a reminder!

JDownloader2 is a free download manager used by 10's of millions of people and it has very extensive YouTube support and supports a variety of other video/image hosters.

youtube-dl downloads

Their main page is still up at https://youtube-dl.org/ and downloads work.

(Their dev repository on github was taken down by RIAA)

The revolution will not be televised. It will be spread Paul Revere style.

Get your horses ready.

They will burn the library at Alexandria. They did it before and will do it again for power.

Meaning they can no longer receive money to pay for their huge server costs

How does this mean they can no longer receive money? There are many other ways to collect money besides PayPal. It will obviously hurt them but it does not mean they can't collect money.

it will significantly reduce the amount of money they can get... I mean yes you can still send bitcoins to them but whos going to do that?

uvontheterrible 6 points ago +7 / -1

There are lots of ways to transfer money besides PayPal and bitcoin.

Again, I understand it will be a hit, but it should not stop them. Most people who are willing to donate money will do it a different way.

There is so much opportunity for a conservative banking group or billionaire to start a payment service that does not cancel industries and organizations unless they are doing illegal shit.

Firearms companies, conservative websites, whatever. I would join such a payment service in an instant and they would have a huge influx of customers within months.

This source code is already out in the wild. YouTube can’t stop it. Riaa can’t stop it. On top of this, there’s a dozen other YouTube downloaded web services. I’m not saying this is a nothing burger but the ability to save video of what you're seeing on you monitor will always exist. Hell even if you got to use basic screen recording tech.

I guess my response to Riaa would be “ok boomer”. They’re wasting their time.

Can we make a torrent site with videos? They seem to be difficult to shut down.
