I'm pretty sure we reached on the top 1000 like 2 months ago. You see that steady increase and it suddenly stopped? It was right around then that we reached on the top 1000. They artificially stopped counting any new since then. Tbh, I'm surprised they're even letting the number go down now, albeit months later.
If you read how the rankings work, it becomes substantially more difficult to move up the lower your rank gets. For example, moving from 1000 to 500 might require an increase in traffic significantly larger than the increase required to move from 500000 to 1000.
I don't see anything yet to suggest Amazon was manipulating it.
