Rampant homelessness, petty crime, absurd taxes and rental costs were already causing an exodus, but after Covid it's like a ghost town in many areas. Over 50% of the city's storefronts have shuttered permanently, and unemployment rates are the worst they've been probably since the Great Depression. The city is in extremis, but the people in charge are lunatics and blame Trump for literally everything, despite the fact they're in charge at every level of government. Words really can't describe how anxious I am to leave this shithole.
I heard a talk from an author/professor I believe it was last week on the radio. They were clearly left leaning and it was on an ultra left radio show, but he made some good points for both sides and I enjoyed the listen - which is rare for anything left wing these days for me.
Anyway, one of the things he spoke about that made me think was that white people have been in control of pretty much everything in America for a very long time, but are now a minority versus all the other groups. Naturally, conservatives feel like something is being "taken away", that we're losing something, and that makes people very scared - which drives the extreme polarization we've seen over the past decade or two.
I think it's a bit more nuanced than that, because it's not just being scared of losing control, but that it's being done on purpose by our enemy to advance their own political goals. We all know that if South Americans voted R, Obama would have built the wall himself.
Also I think conservatism is about values and not race. If a country in Africa, let's say Zambia was run by a tough conservative who taught our values and built the country up through hard work and dedication... We'd eat that shit up. Make Zambia great and all that. :)
This is actually as per plan. Big corporations are going to buy of the properties. They will bring in Chinese money to rebuild. Next thing they know San Fran will be CCP owned

I had a smart boss once, and asked him what side of the political spectrum he's on. He says something like:
"Well, socially and ideologically I'm pretty liberal."
