There is exactly one name that Joe is supposed to remember. Everything else is largely superfluous, as he's shown. Doesn't have to know where he is, who he is, what office he's running for, etc, but for fuck's sake, at least remember the Orange Man you've spent your entire campaign bitching about!
It's worse than just forgetting, too. It happens, I forget names sometimes but you can refer to people in other ways - last name (Trump), position (President), nickname (Orange Man), anything like that. But Joe couldn't even think on his feet about something that simple, or he was actually certain that George was the real name, and I don't know which one is more worrying.
