It's still a Democracy. Democratic Republic. Our Republic is a type of democracy, namely a representative democracy, just not a direct democracy. The Left wants a pure, direct democracy (no electoral college).

When you give the least intelligent, least committed the same political power as the most intelligent and most committed, the system can be manipulated by emotion (it is). Historically maybe that statement was valid, but since all citizens elect the electors who are supposed to mechanical cast their vote for the state popular vote...it's just not a meanfull distinction when it comes to the GP's post.
