How were more jews killed during ww2 than existed in europe during the 30s/40s?
This is one of the questions I heard decades ago, in the 1970s, and I have always kept it in mind. With the readiness of information provided by the internet beginning about 1996, I found that although about 6 million Jews were killed (along with about 6 million others), there were far more that 6 million Jews in Europe at the start of the war in 1939, even after many had fled.
Some places, such as Poland, had over 96% of the Jewish population killed. In general, the percentages were much higher in the Eastern areas than the Western areas. In dome occupied countries/teritories the % drops to about 40% killed. And of course Germany proper was almost complete, which was a much bigger country back then even leaving out the Anschluss with Austria.
It is always good to be sceptical on things in general, it's just that on this topic any scepticism, questions, or doubts have been erased by years of reading and study.
And these horrors are not unique to Nazi Germany. The Japanese practiced their own form in Manchuria, beginning in 1937. Stalin killed more than Hitler ever did, and did it inside his own country. Mao made Stain look like an amateur. A more recent manifestation of genocide took place in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge communist regime. About 1/3 of the county's population was killed. It was so bad that the communist Vietnamese invaded Cambodia to overthrow the communist Khmer Rouge.
I am thankful everyday that I was born in the United States of America. MAGA.
