Did you see the report from the House Science, Space and Technology Committee that said three very well known environmental groups: Sierra Club Foundation, League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, and Natural Resources Defense Council get funding from Russia to oppose our domestic energy industry? Also, another one shows how a lot of the resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline was funded by Russians. They also funded the other side just to sow division in the process:
So yes, there's definitely Russian meddling, it's just mostly directed at leftist causes.

Russia doesn't want the U.S. to have energy independence.
A couple reasons I can think of : 1) we are now a country that can put pressure on Europe to forget Russian oil and work to supply some of their needs. 2) we were the main country fighting wars over securing middle eastern oil which caused prices to rise and supply to drop. 3) we will do anything possible , like we did during COVID, to maintain the global oil market to keep our oil independence intact. It benefits Russia and Saudi Arabia to fight a short to medium term oil war by flooding the market as we have the most price sensitive operations surrounding fracking.
