Growing up in a pretty big hockey town, I played almost every day of my childhood. There were a few black kids in my neighborhood who would play with us but EVEN THEY would get shit from other black kids for playing hockey with us.
"Yo E, why you playin that white ass shit with them, get over here and play bball with us"... That's just one I remember from 30 years ago...
In school, if our gym class had hockey for the day, most of the black kids would go into a corner and shoot hoops, or just sit on the bleachers...
Now I could care less what sport anyone is into but, it's clear to me that most black people CANNOT STAND hockey and therefore don't play it.
Don't blame the NHL or white people for a lack of interest in hockey from the black community.
Edit: I've also had conversations with black co-workers who confirm, they just can't get into it...
Crazy that someone could be into sports and not like ice hockey. It's the apex of competitive team sports. Basketball used to be more like hockey before they turned it into a bitch sport.

Hockey is made of players from around the world. Whites aren't one people. Many different cultures. Its very diverse. Same with blacks. We going to tell the league they need to be proportionate to the country they are in? Nfl nba max blacks can be 13% minimal 60% whites 5% lgbtq123.
The NHL is more diverse than the NFL and NBA which are huge majority Americans. NHL is a lot more international, only around one fourth of the league is American. Majority is Canadian and the rest is comprised of Sweden, Russia, Finland, Czech, Slovakia, etc. The NHL isnt considered diverse because the majority is white guys from various countries, but the NFL is considered diverse with a league like 87% black and 99% American.

it was the end of the nba for me. i was already turned off by the dumb pre-approved political messages on the jerseys and black lives matter on the court. i had long been over woke sports media. but refusing to play because a violent criminal was shot violently resisting arrest..... simply because he is a black person? that's not just dumb, that's offensive and i'm out.

The reason why hockey isn't popular with blacks or Latinos yet is simply hasn't been accessible long enough. Many of the southern teams are decently recent. Plus, many of the inner city kids would rather play basketball or baseball. This is beyond intellectual dishonesty.

Sports is the most merit based activity we have on the planet. If you're good enough, you get hired for the professional team and get paid $$$$$.
Even the NBA had a super racist guy owning the LA Clippers before he was forced to sell it, and the team was still like 90% black guys or something.

Hahaha. Hockey is a brutally unforgiving sport. If you can play, go for it. This has nothing to do with race. It’s a hard meritocracy and needs to stay that way.
No one who hoists that cup didn’t pay in blood and broken bone for it.

The NHL is like the least racist sport too. I played for years, and trust me the hockey world would love more black/brown players.
