Permastickied until the election
We think nationally a lot, but let's talk local for a bit!
Rules for this thread are pretty simple. Top-level posts must be structured as such or they'll be deleted:
[STATE]
[COUNTY/CITY/etc (if applicable)]
[Position title. School board, police chief, dog catcher, tax hike, etc.]: -Who is the MAGA candidate(s), or Yes/No to the initiative. Please include an explanation (and link, if possible)
Example:
NORTH DAKOTA
FARGO COUNTY
Police Chief:
-Deputy Dangle. He puts rollerskating hookers away and doesn't afraid of anything
School tax increase
-Vote NO. They're failing our students, churning out rollerskating hookers. They'll use the money for rayciss training anyway.
If you're looking for advice for your state/county, ctrl-F and search for it. If nothing comes up, do some research and advise others!
Regarding EE, all the time in CO they try to pass taxes on cigarettes and every year Phillip Morris/Altria spends money to fight it. This year Altria hasnt spend 1 PENNY to fight this. Why you ask? Because they are the biggest tobacco company and they are getting a sweet deal out of this law if it passes. The proposal of this bill and sponsors sent this bill through so fast that it was not transparent and there were back room deals. Deals that benefit big tobacco and crush competition. This bill sets price floors and is pure corporate cronyism and corruption. At the expense of poorer people too...
Lets talk about vaping, I think its stupid and I don't want kids to get into vaping. However I know plenty of millennial adult friends who transistioned away from cigarettes to vape and have used that transition to eventually quit. I know that's anecdotal but people who're addicted can't stop cold turkey and vape is maybe probably slightly healthier. Why should we tax people for these sin taxes anyway? Because we think it will make it harder to afford and decrease its use.
People will smoke regardless of the tax, and all this will do is burden poorer people, who are more likely tobacco users, and they need their money to not be wasted on taxes. There are other cigarettes companies than Altria who sell cheaper products, but a price floor will wipe those companies out. And also if we make cigarettes so expensive, whats stopping people from selling loose single cigarettes to people on the street? It creats SO MANY Problems. Selling untaxed loose cigarettes will happen if packs of cigarettes become too expensive.
This tax will equate to at the end of 7 years a 62% tax on tobacco products. The legislature also says the funds from this will go to a bunch of specific projects, preschool and public housing. Do people really believe the money will go to where they say it is going? I personally don't think so.
Vote NO on EE. Its a terrible law.
Okay, I can agree with your analysis and a lot more of the details about it.
Yeah it makes me feel the guy who posted yes on EE is a shill or something. Dude wants more taxes from cigs and ecigs then wants a reduced or 0% income tax.
I agree with your analysis here. Very well put
