In regards to the second link, what if all the fuck ups early in the project were counter intelligence? Like have the code not work properly so the gun doesn't fire or it is unstable then patch it later? Like what the CIA did to the shuttle plans when Russia was trying to steal them for their Energia program. Maybe giving them credit where it isnt due, but makes more sense then having multiple contractors with decades of experience mess up that bad.
