In my experience, since these people clearly don't understand even basic economics and resource management, the best tact is to just keep asking what they intend to do with the people that don't want to be communists.

I take the inverse. I think they just sluff off the gulag, reeducation, etc... and say thats not real communism. They just write off the mention of that as right wing BS, or not real communism. What they cannot explain for the life of them all comes down to the idea that communism would require an armed revolution. That is my point in getting them to explain how we could implements such with a tax based system. First they have to admit that a tax based system could not be changed without a revolution which is much easier than getting them to admit gulags would appear. Just my two cents, I dont give 2 fucks about commies, I was a fucking commie in my early 20s. The easiest way to get over that is to move out of moms and start paying taxes (yeah cliche but its so true). After enough years of that, communism seems like kid shit.
