WA resident here. I love seeing all the Bernie/Biden homes with solar pannels on them. In western WA it rains, is cloudy, and snows off and on from Sept. to May. I know a homesteader who has a large solar panel and it's effectively useless for 75% of the year. At best it keeps batteries from dying something is left on accidentally.
Solar is a great option in the Southwest and solar farms would be amazing alternatives. But it's not a holistic solution. If they really want emission free that doesn't cost more to maintain and create than the energy it provides (cough, wind energy) then they need to incorporate hydroelectric, solar, and nuclear. There's no power panacea unless we discover cold fusion.
