He can decriminalize it on the federal level but it would still ultimately be up to the states to legalize it on the state level.

I support the legalization of marijuana.

It's a no-brainer really.

I get it because the brain cells would die :D

Kek! I really didn't intend it that way but whatevs. It does way more damage being illegal than legal, legalize the shit already!

As it should be. The federal government never had any business in it anyway.

Covid2020 11 points ago +11 / -0

this is the major hurdle, once it's not criminal on a federal level, many states and business lobbies will want that sticky green ...MONEY!

boon for education, boon for real estate and a boon for local economies.

NIMBY types will hate it of course

Worse than cannabis imo is the restrictions on MDMA, psilocybin (magic mushrooms), mescaline (peyote), and dmt. The extremely few (they're HEAVILY limited) studies on these drugs show WILD promise for many of our common mental illnesses like clinical depression/anxiety and PTSD. It is 100% a crime against humanity that these drugs remain illegal and disallowed for study.

I've never done anything harder than weed so I can't say on other drugs. But weed is all organic and doesn't need anything more than water, soil and, sunlight. So it's fine it's my opinion and less harmful than alcohol, which destroys your liver.

I wouldn't be opposed to hearing out an argument for legalization of mushrooms though. Any articles you can link would be awesome.

MuadDon 2 points ago +2 / -0

Just to clarify, most of what I said was in terms of clinical study and the medical application of these compounds. Personally, I think they should be legalized anyway bc they all grow naturally from the ground, too, (besides MDMA), but they AT LEAST should be studied and applied clinically. It’s like doing a test run and the results were beyond your wildest dreams, but the govt says you can’t bc arbitrary “moral” reasons. Completely asinine, and why I said it’s a crime against humanity. Suicides happen daily that could have been avoided by ONE dose of psilocybin. From my experience with MDMA, I think everyone should take it once every half a year to reset. It’s like defragging your brain. Overuse though is dangerous.

My #1 argument is that psychedelic mushrooms grow all on their own and that if a forager accidentally grabs somewhile hunting for gourmet mushrooms or even a landowner clearing brush on his own property gathers them they can be subject to a felony from overzealous law enforcement.

In Oregon we have a measure for mushroom psychotherapy on the ballot as an opening to get some kind of prescription ability for psilocybin, there is a lot of literature on the ballot initiative site https://voteyeson109.org/. There is a lot to be said for its use in therapy particularly with PTSD and for veterans, I know several who have really benefited massively from similar things. That said this is obviously a bit one-sided, there is not only a financial incentive but also political games being played. I would have much preferred we used our ballot initiative system in the same way we did becoming the first to decriminalize marijuana back in 1973.

Yes, this is 100% a state's rights issue.

RichterScale 18 points ago +19 / -1

Do this, and no matter what it will be a landslide

2
ObamasLooseButthole 2 points ago +2 / -0

It would actually hurt him a bit. A lot of older people would possibly sit the election out over this issue. If he's going to decriminalize it, it needs to be after the election.

veterans for weed

Agreed. I hate the shit, but just look at my username. Drinking beer as I type. I guess it shouldn't be any different? I mean, I hate weed and the people that I know that use it suck, but I can't be a hypocrite. I also smoke tobacco. So... Oh fuck. I'm a degenerate!

I don't think he will do it he's more likely to let the states decide for themselves which I think is how it should happen anyway..

7
Thedaythe_redditdied 7 points ago +7 / -0

I agree with that. But it needs to be decriminalized at the federal level then the states can decide.

GREENREAPER210 2 points ago +4 / -2

Why do we want to make marijuana legal and pay taxes on something we can get now without having to pay the tax

6
Thedaythe_redditdied 6 points ago +7 / -1

So i can have a gun and a joint at the same time.

0
GreatNW 0 points ago +1 / -1

As is you risk legal issues if you want to grow it currently. I'd take paying taxes vs risking possible death in an overzealous DEA raid.

For what its worth in Oregon you can grow your own and no taxes needed. Obviously, this will/should be up to each state.

Don’t smoke it, makes no difference to me personally but if you make it legal you can tax it. Shut down the cartels. Fuck it, legalise the lot... Coke, pills, weed, mushrooms.... I want a whole new section in CVS for recreational drugs and all that sweet sweet tax money it will generate. No more mules.

Legalise prostitution while you’re at it. No more pimps. Legal and safe brothels. Stops sex trafficking.

For the record I am 100% serious. This is not hyperbole. Government can get fucked saying what we can and can’t do as adults.

Canada voted for this, now their children and their country is dead.

Puff puff then pass. Also it’s a stated right issue. And more importantly it’s an individual freedom. It’s no ones business what i put in my body.

How can a naturally occurring plant be illegal, while GMO is not only legal, but subsidized?

Genesis 1:29

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

-4
driveshack -4 points ago +8 / -12

Keep it illegal

9
making_upvotes 9 points ago +10 / -1

Sorry man I have a problem with the government telling me which plants I can or can't grow and or smoke.

2
GreatNW 2 points ago +3 / -1

I respect any individual state making that choice but controlling its legality inside of any particular state is not a federal power.
