I think one day, in retrospect, we'll be able to look back on this Covid "crisis" as bringing about a tremendous amount of needed societal change with a minimal sacrifice of human life. This could be one of those "silver linings" to a very dark cloud.

Cutting tenured professors... Welcome to the real world.

bangbus 23 points ago +24 / -1

I’ll bet when they get turned loose they’ll all hit the private sector and mop up six figure jobs like no one’s business. Just ask them, they’re taking less comp than they’d otherwise earn because they care so deeply about the community.

Look up the replication crisis. It's a major issue hitting psychology and other social sciences. Speaking of Joe's lid, they've been trying to keep a lid on it for a while. All this bullshit you see being peddled in society is the result of these psychological / psychiatric and social sciences peddled.

BasedOnWhat 7 points ago +7 / -0

Psychiatry is a medical field, although I agree it is deeply flawed having been rung through the mental health system, there is some science behind it.

Psychology however is pretty useless and in my experience with therapists, clincal psychologists (PsyD) have been the biggest fraudsters of all.

5
HistoryInvestigator 5 points ago +5 / -0

Psychiatry is far worse in my opinion, as it's based on pseudoscience and piggybacks off of neurology/neuroscience to seem legitimate. As a result they prescribe brain/body damaging pills, ECT, leukotomies and lobotomies, etc. and these are based on false premises that use long disproven theories to push big pharma. It's all about control by and for the state over the individual:

http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/future_tense/2016/02/schizophrenia_genes_found_not_so_fast.html

https://qz.com/1162154/30-years-after-prozac-arrived-we-still-buy-the-lie-that-chemical-imbalances-cause-depression/

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/cross-check/are-psychiatric-medications-making-us-sicker/

https://www.anxietycentre.com/anxiety/chemical-imbalance.shtml

http://cepuk.org/ < seeks reform in the field

But yes, you're also right about psychology being mostly useless, though I do think clinical therapists and patient centered/based psychology is useful:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/aug/27/study-delivers-bleak-verdict-on-validity-of-psychology-experiment-results

5
lumpster 5 points ago +5 / -0

1 in 40 therapists is very good and can help make changes in a person's life. The rest are shit talking fakes, good only for listening and sympathizing at $130/hour or more, i.e., something a good friend would do for free.

2
HistoryInvestigator 2 points ago +2 / -0

I agree there's useless psychologists, and unfortunately it's not standard across the board as the "therapies" are often junk. Some may be well intended but often are useless. It's not the hourly rate I have an issue with, if they're effective great, it's the fact most don't work and worse can often make a person's life worse.

10
Paperbagpatriot 10 points ago +10 / -0

Hahahaha. Most of those studies professors could barely get an entry level Walmart job.

8
starboard 8 points ago +8 / -0

The only thing they qualify for is teaching critical race theory and that is not a thing federally anymore. Thank you President Trump! So welcome to McDonald’s can I take zir’s order?

Hell I'd argue it's done enough damage. The Greivance Studies are directly responsible for the illiberal left. We just need to keep making sure their bullshit falls flat everywhere they do it. Hollywood, politics, marketing. Keep firing boys.

My girlfriend actually dropped out this semester (with my 100% support). She was already not feeling college for a alot of reasons, but the straw that broke the camel's back was that the school was mandating random covid testing for any and all students. So basically, at any time, the school could subject you to a covid test. Fuck off

28
Comanche_Moon 28 points ago +28 / -0

I hope SOMEONE looks into all the Chinese money that has poured into these colleges and someone goes to jail for accepting it. Its crap like this that stocks our schools with commies and traitors and degenerate teachers.

14
bangbus 14 points ago +14 / -0

The commies and traitors infiltrated long before the Chinese money.

3
lumpster 3 points ago +3 / -0

No it started in the late 1800's. Just go look at headlines in the 1920's. They called themselves socialists and anarchists. This has been a world takeover attempt, took time to set it all up. We must find their roots, follow their networks and dismantle all of their power centers.

QSWO1 11 points ago +11 / -0

UTA engineering grad got fired from Lockheed because it could not define torque. True story. Happened this year. Sauce is from University of Texas students in Arlington Texas. They are worried about the schools accreditation. Foreigners take over, and wonder about credibility.

My grad school and my undergraduate school have been squeezing alumni for years to build up their asset base. fuck them with a rake, beat them with the shovel, and let them use their own fucking endowment to pay their own bills.

14
CheekyBastard 14 points ago +14 / -0

Same here. I was a big supporter of the athletic department, business school, and alumni association of my alma mater. They decided to go full woke and bend the knee to communists and criminals. I promptly told them to go get fucked.

1

My alma mater sent me an email the beginning of the fall semester asking for donations, I think due to losses in tuition that would have come from students. They decided to incarcerate the students and punish them for having a social life at the beginning of the semester. I think things are better now but still plenty of security theater. The subreddit is a cringefest, a bunch of nerds angry they didn't get invited to go out and party.

2
Number2withfries 2 points ago +2 / -0

"The nerds that didn't get invited out to party" are the most insidious threat college students now face. Anybody who wants to have fun is going to be reported on by a sneering loser pissed no one wants to hang out with them. As long as these reporting systems are in place 90% of the student body will be held hostage by the 10% of losers that hate themselves.

Outlaw student loans

Boomers got fucking law degrees while flipping cheese burgers, you know why?

Because there was no source of unlimited funding which allowed schools to raise their prices infinitely. They had to sell the product (education) to their audience (the uneducated).

Bring back boomer prices. Abolish student loans (public and private). The experiment failed

4
FiatLux 4 points ago +4 / -0

i thing private loans can still exist but they shouldnt be federally backed like they are now - that skews the prices by changing the incentives. also it means they cant be discharged in bankruptcy, which encourages lending to stupid majors and woke sjw shit

2
lumpster 2 points ago +2 / -0

When I went to MBA school, the student loan cabal was relentless trying to get me to take big $$. I made it through without it, but took $10,000 last semester for a wild spree in the Caribbean.

Advice for edu-faggots:

  • work boots w proper ANSI rating and steel toes can be had for ~$80

  • head to harbor freight for the following:

gloves, ear plugs, clear plastic glasses (you are a pussy and these will help you in your new job as a day laborer until your english skills get you hired onto a crew)

$9 framing hammer

three boxes of nails - framing, roofing, and finishing

scrap 2x4 you will drive those nails into w your dominant hand

Good luck faggots! The pay is way better and the company you keep is fun to eat lunch with - unlike your shit head woke coworkers.

1
ArmedHousewife 1 point ago +2 / -1

Harbor freight tools are crap.

1
learntocode 1 point ago +1 / -0

yup, but if you are starting out you dont have the money for much else. first paycheck get some better boots. next paycheck get a real tool for your trade, etc

1
ronaldraygun 1 point ago +1 / -0

You start with harbor freight tools then replace the ones that break with the good stuff

College sucks. I wish I never went. I am in school debt sadly but it is just the way of the rigged world.

4
lumpster 4 points ago +4 / -0

How things have changed. I went to a top university (state) and my tuition was $450 per semester. Was able to pay 1/2 my way playing in prom and fraternity bands on weekends. Graduated 1975 though.

4
WhiteLash 4 points ago +4 / -0

You were lucky. I studied business, but love music. Now there’s no money in that either. As a straight while male I can’t even make it in the business world now. It’s all diversity hires that get promoted and leftist fat bitches run HR so good luck. Anyways hopefully Trump turns things around again.

Then eliminate the student loan program.

6
bobobob 6 points ago +6 / -0

These schools also rely on importing tons of Chinese and other foreign students to cover their inflated budgets, which the China virus has put a stop to. The remaining students are questioning the value of paying full tuition for online classes. This whole scenario is going to force schools to cut their bloated budgets and cut non-productive programs to stay competitive with a shrinking pool of potential students.

We gotta back up our shit talk by being willing to hire and mentor talented young people...even if they don't have a college degree. Some of my past hires without degrees were my best. Hard workers, no bad habits, and less entitled.

"Cutting tenured teaching positions" is where it's at. They can and will slash the budget of a needed department to pay a tenured professor for bullshit. Like paying for a tenured professor to repeat a recent study while that professor teaches only one class a year.

4

I just heard on the news tonight that enrollment is UP! 485 thousand students enrolled this semester in “U” colleges. Four percent down in undergrad. I want this post to be true so bad! I hate those liberal bike lock antifa teachers!
