True for some of the rioters. But for others it's a narcissistic reaction to anger. They're not just smashing up stores, but other property along the way because they don't know how to deal with their unresolved issues.

Whether that be some kind of mental illness, dissatisfaction with themselves, or anger that their community is filled with violence and there's no way to realistically fix it (without a bunch of people taking individual responsibility). The rioters unleash it outwards and harm others rather than hold it in and try to process it themselves.
