A little late for this dustup, but have you tried writing to your governor to have the prohibition on gun ownership lifted? Each state has a different process, but if you search "(state) felon gun rights restored" you should be able to find the process for your state. It's not a 100% success rate, but for non-violent felonies with a long clean period you've got a decent chance.
Actually, I live in Texas where a felon can legally own a gun in their home under state law after 5 years off paper. But I cant practice with it at a range because I cant leave my house with it and would be highly irresponsible for me to have it with no idea.
Most ranges (at least around me) have rentals available, so you should at least be able to practice with something similar. Or find one you like as a rental and buy one of the same.
Sucks to be me. I'm a felon who cant legally own a gun, though I have faith ACB may just change that. Teenager non violent felony. I'm 41 now so...
