Most of the nonsense you hear about the church dates back to the 18th and 19th century when The Church of England was trying to discredit the pope and remove the political power of the Vatican (no surprise there, all roads lead to politics). A good example is the Spanish Inquisition. The first mentions of torture and Iron Maidens come from this era and was completely fabricated. Then the infamous Galileo story which is insanely misrepresented. The church funded Galileo’s research in the first place, he was friends with the pope at the time and got into an argument with him, then wrote a very public story where he ridiculed him. This was a political issue for which Galileo ended up on house arrest for a little over a year in an Italian villa complete with all his research equipment and was allowed to continue his work (side note: Johannes Kepler was the one who actually did the math proving heliocentricity. Not that Galileo couldn’t have, but he was an obstinate man and, again, was feuding with the political powers of the time). Then there’s the crusade which I hope you’re already aware is also completely misrepresented. They were a retaliation for centuries of Muslim invasions into Europe and the holy land. This is just the prominent examples but history is widely controlled in the same way the news is, by people with suspect motivations.
Also the only reason u had all these discoveries such as photograph, industrial revolution, technology is because countries like British Empire and USA supported scientific research while Roman Empire, Austria and other catholic nations didn’t.
Most of these things weren’t written by the Anglican Church but date before during Humanism and Reinessance in Italy literally. Catholic Church was mostly in control of the Europe and popes usually came from rich families such as Borgias and Medicis, they served their family because papal power was very important for a country and a family. Popes worked to benefit their rich families and of course themselves. Medieval is called Dark Age for a reason, because there was no progress. Real example is the fact that there was no much research and development in 1000 years. Compare year 600 with year 1200, in 600 years everything was basically the same, there was no development there was nothing, cities weren’t even getting built (there were few that date to ancient times), from fall of Western Roman Empire to Discovery of Americas in 1492 there wasn’t much research done at all. Only in 1600s, 1700s, 1800s, 1900s there were major developments in human history. Thats why in 1974 you had technology such as computers and only 200 years before that people were farming, driving wooden boats and in late 1800s you had a photograph and 100 years before that it was unimagineable. And of course now in 2020 you have smartphones, all the technology etc and just 300 years ago it was unimaginable, you were basically in medieval times. Thats just 300 years ago. Meanwhile when church ruled until 1500 if you go back 1000 years there was no major development and it was basically the same. Thats why worked developmed more from 1800-2000 than from 0-1500. More in 200 years than in 1500 years
The idea that there was no progress in the medieval era is nonsense. It was called the dark ages because we didn’t know a lot about it at the time the name was coined, not because of lack of scientific progress. Regardless, you’re way off topic. You’re wrong about people being burned at the stake for saying the earth was round. Don’t change the discussion because you can’t support the claim with anything substantial
Its not wrong its actually true. You claim its not truth because medieval fake news. Also its called dark age because of lack of scientific research and development google it
