He’ll do what he can. We need congress and the senate.

lefty295 37 points ago +37 / -0

The FCC could do something, but it's gonna need Congress for anything lasting.

Yeah... let's expand executive authority... Great idea!

Forty_Five 26 points ago +26 / -0

He didn't grant himself these powers, he inherited them from past administrations.

We're currently in a battle for our very freedom against the deepstate, foreign governments, and the fucking GOP itself. Nah man, the time for playing nice has long since fucking passed.

0
hex7bb 0 points ago +5 / -5

I'm not talking about playing nice. I'm just talking about working within the system and within the system the president has no authority to tell private companies what they have to do unless we're talking defense production act or something.

14
Forty_Five 14 points ago +14 / -0

And I'm saying that Trump needs to exercise his powers to the fullest extent or the United States as we know it will be no more.

-12
hex7bb -12 points ago +1 / -13

He has no power to tell Twitter or Facebook what to do.

7
Missanthripocenex 7 points ago +7 / -0

Um, if they’re getting government subsidies and then acting like private publishers, controlling info then yes they absolutely can start telling them what to do.

7
DrCowboyPresident 7 points ago +7 / -0

In case you haven't noticed, the other side isn't going to follow some rules on paper if they take power. They will do whatever they can get away with.

Republicans' love for 'precedent' has bit them in the ass more times than we can count.

As Humpty Dumpty said, the question is who is to be master - That's all.

The right view themselves as honorable; the left view the right as that Nazi in Inglourious Basterds who got his brains bashed in

-1
hex7bb -1 points ago +1 / -2

Well.. if we all decide there are no rules, I don't see how that ends well.

The democrats changed the rules for confirming federal judges and look at how that bit them in the ass. I don't think more rule changing or executive power expansion is the way to go.

If FCC controls how section 230 is defined/used, no need for Congress to do anything. And I believe that is what current FCC head has claimed.

Or do it lib way, through lawsuits, then make sure they go to the supreme court. All we need is a proper "interpretation" of the law as applied to big tech.

13
FRONT_TOWARD_LEFT 13 points ago +14 / -1

There are at least three paths to getting these assholes.

The first is through civil lawsuits where judges rule on what "good faith" means.

The second is through legislation where lawmakers clarify the limits of "otherwise objectionable."

The third is through regulatory rule-making by the FCC that classifies "platforms" as common carriers based on their reach (size of user base) or the availability of alternatives.

Big social media is going down. As I posted here early this morning, we, as civilized people, are not equipped to successfully deal with the level of interconnection that big social media provides. It needs to end.

So refreshing to see somebody with an optimistic outlook instead of blackpilled "nothing will happen" faggots.

Yes, this is the correct answer. None of this Repeal 230 crap.

4
StandardOilCompany 4 points ago +4 / -0

what does this mean practically from a user's perspective? Will that change much, or is it mainly changes on the business side?

2
FRONT_TOWARD_LEFT 2 points ago +2 / -0

I expect the general purpose platforms that exist only to connect everyone together to profit off their data will all disappear. There is nothing wrong with making a profit, and that is exactly what makes these fuckers deserve this implosion so much. They could have sat back and kept collecting their windfall but chose instead to kill the goose laying the golden eggs because any little thing outside of their strict collectivist orthodoxy triggered them so.

The sites like this and the umpteen thousands of special-interest or editorially focused boards will be all that's left of the social media landscape.

There is no such thing as "fair."

It is not possible bring people together in a general-purpose forum where they are free to discuss or share whatever they want. It cannot be done in real life. It cannot be done online.

Human nature makes it impossible. There will always be too many people who cannot suppress their impulse to dominate by forcing their will onto others for this to work.

Big social media needs to go away.

This requires changing our current libel laws, which we should absolutely do. Our current laws require proof of "actual malice" in order to sue the MSM. As of right now, it's near impossible to do this.

I don't doubt Trump.

I doubt everyone that would do the legwork though.

So I don't actually see much happening.

Because of the election everything has ground to a halt because no one wants to be seen "influencing the election". That is why Barr and other have gone limp, at least officially.

Holy Smacks!! Unrelated.

Giuliani just EVISCERATED 'Kennedy' on her own show tonight after she compared him to Christopher Steele. Made her look REAL bad for having done no research on the Laptop from Hell, and carrying water for the DNC.

Then she tried to deflect with a Borat Movie question to further embarrass him, and got another rightful curb-stomping by the G-Man.

It was beautiful. Fox News on suicide watch.

2

Should have been done in 2018 before Republicans lost the House.

I believe it's a little too late for that now - worse, if the election is stolen, they already have the narrative and the power to control that narrative.

I hope he can do something though.

Executive order means an order from the executive. Not to the executive.

1

An executive order is a means of issuing federal directives in the United States, used by the president of the United States, that manages operations of the federal government.
