My biggest issue is not wanting to accidentally go off on a fren. Usually, I can spot the trolls and gaslighters well enough, but doubt seeps in, and I go soft. I'm used to 4chan, where I don't care who I hurt. If they're hurty and they're on 4chan, they shouldn't be there - IMHO. In here, I get soft, I get like - what if I insult the wrong guy, and they decide not to vote, or I misunderstood and they're really a decent person, etc. Plus, I don't like gaslighters at all.
I go by a three strike rule. If the conversation is productive I will continue it, but if there is only arguing being done and continues to the third comment without a reason for the argument then I basically leave the conversation and don't respond any further.
I don't think this place makes people soft, but helps us remain sane with the amount of bull that is always being spewed out there.

Did I mention not liking gaslighters?

Very true.
