No source, just a theory. I myself used to struggle very much with porn addiction, and it ruined my first marriage. Just saw that some anon posted months ago that Hunter got caught somehow and that he tossed the laptop in the pond.

Now as a reformed porn addict, I assure you that it is no easy thing to give up an archive of porn. When you collect it like that, it’s a treasure. It becomes your secret hoard of obscene joy and satisfaction. You treasure those photos and you assign a lot of emotional attachment to them. But you also don’t want to get caught, and you’ll do anything to not get caught. It’s a real internal conflict.

I guarantee you that once Hunter thought he was caught, he got all mad and outraged, like “how dare you accuse me of that!” Then he said something like “I don’t even use my laptop that much! I don’t have anything on it, watch!” And he tossed it into the water, basically to 1) hide the evidence and 2) try to seem like he didn’t care to lose it.

But then after the dust settled, he retrieved his “destroyed” laptop and started thinking about all those photos. All those memories that he uses to jerk off to, and all the sexual satisfaction that he’ll never get back. He’s miserable and depressed and addicted, and he decides he can secretly get it fixed and get his photos back.

Why didn’t he pick it up? Who knows. Maybe he changed his mind again after living without the photos for a while. Maybe he got them restored via the cloud and didn’t see a reason to get the laptop back. He probably thought it was legitimately ruined anyway, so why bother.

And now here we are.

If you look at his texts they are all classic addict blame game victim mentality. He takes zero personal responsibility and all his problems are someone else’s fault.

This would be an excellent writing prompt for a fiction workshop.
