The Spanish were also shocked at the barbarism of the native Americans. The Aztecs and Mayans enslaved other groups or tribes and sacrificed hundreds of thousands to their gods. The conquest of central and south America by the Spanish was aided hugely by those tribes who wanted to emancipate themselves from their more powerful native enemies. Cervantes btw was a SLAVE to muslims for years and only survived because his family was able to pay ransom. He was enslaved after being taken prisoner by the muslims at the battle of Lepanto. Another attempt by islam to invade Europe. Read history and find out why he was known as el manco de Lepanto.

He was wounded 3 times in the sea battle, the worst being his left hand, which was mangled and left useless, hence the name of the one-armed man of Lepanto. He was very proud of having been wounded in the service of Emperor Charles.

The people kneeling were modeled from local Hispanics by a Hispanic Sculptor

But they represent spanish soldiers.

No, they represent people dressed in the court fashion of the time.

The man does not have armor on his body below the waist or on his legs, what looks like armor may be the under armor padded tunic which tended to match the profile of the overlay armor.

Normal court dress, you have a gap in your education that needs to be filled
