That’s a pretty broad brush stroke. Americans are a lawful people, for the most part, who are willing to follow reasonable guidelines in an unfamiliar situation. The situation is no longer unfamiliar and these guidelines will largely be ignored.
I was raised in America, went to university, served in the military but moved to Sweden about 10 years ago.
Swede's are a lawful people. Their blind obedience to any and all government decrees drives me up the wall.
Having seen the world a bit, America is still the wild west in my mind. Laws are treated more like suggestions, and frankly, that's what makes America special. But I'll grant you that the unfamiliar situation did throw a wrench into the usually stubborn American psyche.
