Lincoln wasn’t called a fascist or nutjob because he predated those terms.

I was 8 years old when Reagan was re-elected. I was young, but we only had 3 major channels on TV to watch, so I absorbed the media narrative. Kids were actually somewhat informed back then. Reagan was going to blow up the world. He was evil. Blah, blah blah. My parents were based, so I didn't buy it even then, but I saw what the message of the day was. Then he was re-elected in the biggest landslide in history. I haven't believed a word the media power brokers have said since.

This feels very similar.

Other things that are true of Abe and Donald Things needed to add to this:

Multiple generals and other high ranking military officials publicly disagree with me and resign or fired under my command.

Many Republican party political establishment types openly rebuke my plans for the future and fight against my nomination as the Republican candidate during my re-election campaign

Was Lincoln actually widely vilified by the press?

undecidedmask 6 points ago +6 / -0

He was dragged through the mud. Still, he will always be our greatest President!

How long was it before Lincoln began being widely recognized as great?

7
tombombadil 7 points ago +7 / -0

They were calling for memorials to be built right after his assassination.

Civil Rights act. At least, that's when it no longer became disputed.

The press seems to be where communists/anti-nationalists flourish. Right before the Chinese Civil War, when the KMT and CCP were still friends, it was the communists who handled all the press and propaganda.

Shared this with my siblings and you wouldn't believe the cognitive dissonance it caused with my TDS sisters.

Hopefully we skip the final exit part.

Wait a minute. I've heard all sorts of theories about the true cause of the Civil War, but the Civil War broke out in the month after Lincoln was inaugurated...

Did the Democrats actually start the Civil War because of Lincoln???

This makes a lot of sense. Just like today, there's a potential powder keg of divisive issues, but it was Lincoln's election that finally set it off.
