I'm not sure I'd say his change is due to microdosing LSD specifically. Maybe if there were crack/meth/some other drug involved, but not just LSD.
Source: Microdosed 5ug LSD every 3rd day for a month as an experiment (after doing plenty of research), and the only effects I noticed were... -increased control of my mind (had anxiety prior) -increased appreciation for nature and the "little things" in life -slightly increased perception of colors (slightly more vibrant)
The only downside was the risk of possibly getting caught. I noticed no negative effects at that dosage, and the positive ones above have essentially persisted ever since the experiment, which was about 2ish years ago. This is not a recommendation that everyone should do this, only a review of my own experience.
I've heard about the positive effects, but I also can't help but notice that right about the time this became prevalent in Silicon Valley, they seemed to lose ALL creativity. Literally ALL of it. What had been a bustling place of ideas became nothing more than a lazy den of info thieves. When was the last time you found a truly game-changing new app? Or saw a feature on a new phone that you HAD to upgrade for? Right about the time they started this shit is where you'll trace it too.
That is possible. I know a lot of people constantly talk about the creative aspect of it, but I'll say that's something I didn't really notice. I didn't notice a decrease in creativity, but definitely no massive increase like some other people mention. I went through with the experiment more so for the above other positive effects.
I did another brief experiment with microdosing psilocybin (mushrooms). I kept the same every 3rd day schedule, and took 0.2g (normal dose is 1.5-3.5g), in my morning tea. I think I noticed the tiniest bit of increased creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, but I did not see the increased productivity bonus I saw when microdosing LSD. In fact I'd go as far as saying I saw a productivity decrease, as I was more easily distracted, rather than having a stronger sense of focus. I did see the same increased appreciation for nature, and I could see how it would help with anxiety and depression. It just wasn't for me as I wasn't as productive, and I felt slightly weird. I don't really know how to describe it to someone that doesn't already know what I'm talking about, but unlike on a microdose of LSD where I saw the positive effects and absolutely none of the traditional psychedelic effects, on a microdose of mushrooms I felt a slight body load/heaviness. This caused a minor impact on my performance for the first several hours after taking the microdose (on that every 3rd day). I stopped after several weeks due to the slight negative effects, and somewhat underwhelming positive effects.
I personally would skip microdosing mushrooms, but when it came to microdosing LSD, I still think it was a positive experience, I'm happy I went through with the experiment, and it is something I would consider doing again in the future. It's definitely not something I'd want to do permanently, because we don't have too much official scientific research on this topic and instead have to go off of personal accounts of people like me who have tried it, we don't know too much in terms of long term effects. However if I had a super busy couple weeks at work coming up, or a massive project to work through, I'd definitely consider doing it again for another month block or so.
