Vote Joe to have a literal CGI president. He's unable to do organic engagements WHILE HE'S CAMPAIGNING. If Joe is somehow elected we will never see him again. His handlers will create an oval office in the basement and that'll be it. We will have an artificial president, and the deep state will assume total control.

He wouldn't have won the primary if he ran as a Dem. That party is where the evil is concentrated: few Republicans are part of their group (McCain was scum, and was the most notable), and the rest are compromised or intimidated into compliance.

27
Vivadiscordia 27 points ago +27 / -0

This is one of the downsides of a parliamentary system in my opinion. You basically can’t have an outsider candidate, given the PM needs to be an elected member of the majority party, or agreed upon by a coalition. Farage would have to join the Conservative party, win a seat to be a MP, and then be selected by fellow MPs to be the PM. That’s how you get such colossal swamp PMs like Theresa May and Boris Johnson.

11
Italians_Invented_2A 11 points ago +11 / -0

Even in America the president needs to run with a party, in practice.

You've got more chances of an outsider under a proportional representation system (which the UK is not). Ironically Nigel's best electoral result was in the EU parliament because it's proportional representation.

3
FCHYNA 3 points ago +4 / -1

Proportional representation is a baby system of lesser democracies. It doesn’t give a clear majority or mandate. It leads to constant deadlock and nothing ever getting done like in half a dozen European countries like Germany.

3
AK94 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yes, well, government "getting nothing done" is not always a bad thing, you know? More often than not, I'd say it's a pretty good thing.

0
FCHYNA 0 points ago +1 / -1

Perhaps in America's case. Here in Europe we have crisis and social problems that require fixing with a fully functional executive

0
synd1050 0 points ago +1 / -1

I admire European political philosophy.once France starts a revolution,America will be next and then other western countries will follow.

2
Italians_Invented_2A 2 points ago +2 / -0

That's ridiculous. In Europe there's always a government, even if it's a coalition government, and it gets things done. But that's also a false problem. The less government does, the better.

Have you ever thought about your point, or do you just recite buzzwords?

Only soyboys want to have less choice at the voting booth.

Currently in America you don't have representation if you, for instance, are for abortion but against trade unions or viceversa. Or if you want to raise minimum wage but don't want homos to be married or viceversa.

2
FCHYNA 2 points ago +2 / -0 (edited)

If the UK had proportional representation, Brexit would still be in deadlock. That's all i care about, and proof it's a lesser form. One of the UK's best historians (David Starkey) has a great in depth explanation of how and why proportional representation is not that good and I can link it if youre interested. With FPTP you have a clear mandate from a majority winning party, instead of lots of smaller parties trying to work together, coming up with deals to agree that never work in practice and lead to constant deadlock.

And less of the arrogant attitude. Mutt

1
deleted 1 point ago +1 / -0
1
FCHYNA 1 point ago +1 / -0

I know and understand the problems in my country more than anyone. You make a good argument for proportional representation as yes the Tories do lie every time they’re forced to placate farage. But imo it creates more problems than it fixes. Another point to the others I previous put forward is that you can get tyranny of the minority. Many smaller parties coming together to keep power out of the hands of a larger party. One day the British people will have to wake up to the fact that neither the conservatives or labour have their best interests at heart, and fptp would give a third party more power quicker imo. But it’s meaningless really as we are t voting ourselves out of this situation. We’re essentially waiting for society to devolve enough to the point militias are made. America is few years off that. The UK perhaps a decade or two. As a nation we’re at the stage where we’re discovering cohabitation with minorities is impossible because of immutable genetic differences. America learned that a while ago

1

1
FCHYNA 1 point ago +1 / -0

Unfortunately it’s not written down, atleast I don’t think it is. He spoke about it in interviews after last years election. (https://youtu.be/s7Yzy6Rqrmc). It’s essentially the points I’ve already outlined

1
Mareep 1 point ago +1 / -0

What kind of things do they get done, though?

For most of recent history, European nations have ended up with many parties that are more similar to each other than different, rather than just two. Neither of these options is better than the other.

The best thing about non-proportional is that you can thoroughly eliminate a party that doesn't do a good job in government, rather than just vote a bit less for them and end up having them as part of government for five terms.

Unfortunately for Britain, they use FPTP rather than preferential, which means you end up with people too scared to vote for a non-traditional party because the vote might be 'wasted'.

2
Italians_Invented_2A 2 points ago +2 / -0

For most of recent history, European nations have ended up with many parties that are more similar to each other than different, rather than just two.

That's not true at all.

Take Italy for instance. Parties go from openly communists (in the sense that their symbol you find in the ballot is the hammer and sickle - none of this "democratic socialism" crap) to parties that openly call out the white genocide and want to create an ethnostate.

The "centre-right" coalition in Italy has 3 different main parties. All 3 of them are based, but they offer different flavors. One is for regional autonomies, one is for the central state. One is for the free market, another is more towards right wing socialism (a concept that Americans don't even know exists). Etc. So you can still support the main coalition, while trying to push it in a certain direction by changing the balance of power within the coalition itself.

The best thing about non-proportional is that you can thoroughly eliminate a party that doesn't do a good job in government, rather than just vote a bit less for them and end up having them as part of government for five terms.

In America the same two parties have been there for centuries. In Europe parties come and go, in fact there's many parties in parliaments that have been created in the last 10 years or less.

1
Mareep 1 point ago +1 / -0

That's why I said 'most' of recent history. The League has only become a party of genuinely national significance in the past five years or so.

In the Netherlands, which has one of the most pure proportional systems you can get, there are, what, 13 parties in the chamber, and the majority of them are slightly different shades of liberalism which you can't get rid of no matter how hard you shake them.

In America the same two parties have been there for centuries. In Europe parties come and go, in fact there's many parties in parliaments that have been created in the last 10 years or less

The United States has its own problems, and is pretty much the worst example of non-proportional there is. Furthermore, two-party politics does not inherently guarantee that the two parties will be the same for all of time, and indeed in the early histories of the UK, US, Australia, we see that the two parties change according to the times. The Cold War bears much of the blame for solidifying the parties we have currently.

3
thewashambro 3 points ago +3 / -0

Yep that's what it looks like. I like to check in on our British kin every so often too. They' might strike a deal after Christmas or shortly after a no deal exit. Boris has got to play the bluff if he wants a good deal for his country. Dont surrender the fishing rights!

1
PraiseBeToScience 1 point ago +1 / -0

Hold up I thought they were already out. Quick rundown?

5
BorisWave 5 points ago +5 / -0

UK is no longer an EU member, however we are in a transition period until Dec 31st whereby we can still trade and everything else as if we are members, until a trade deal is negotiated. Oct 31st was the deadline for an agreement but they are arguing over fishing rights. The French want out fish. And Boris is saying no. If it's a deadlock, then there will be no trade deal after from Jan 1st, 2021. WTO and we keep our fish.

1
nds19 1 point ago +1 / -0

If there's no deal, what happens with Northern Ireland then? Our media has been making a big deal about this. Regardless, in my opinion no deal is the only option.

1
Mareep 1 point ago +1 / -0

Boris has been an urban elite for his whole life. He spent years in Brussels as a journalist for The Telegraph, and was generally fond of the European project, though critical of some of the excesses. He joined Leave because he saw it as a political opportunity to become PM, which it was, and he did. There is not a conservative bone in his body, which is normal for the Conservative Party. You would struggle for find any leader of the Conservatives who was actually conservative.

10
CarpenterRichard 10 points ago +10 / -0

So, this has always been my position as well, that all foreign aid should be eliminated, but recently I saw a video that gave me a whole new perspective on the issue.

https://youtu.be/zdLxtTOHCGc

It’s not just that the U.S. is giving foreign aid, the U.S. is buying influence, and China is actively doing the same thing. Something to consider, is that if we were to stop doing so, that doesn’t mean China will. It all ties into greater geopolitical strategy.

8
Vizrahen 8 points ago +8 / -0

Then we end the threat, China's only access to oil is through a very narrow and long tanker route. Let's get someone to disrupt that and see how fast China collapses.

The human cost may be too high however.

5
Vivadiscordia 5 points ago +5 / -0

I think war with China is inevitable, and it’s better that we take care of it sooner than later. The longer we allow China to continue to grow, the worse the ensuing conflict will be.

4
TwoStar 4 points ago +4 / -0

Exactly. Influence is important, it's the new Roman occupation: you need influence as far as possible to keep your nation safe, especially when your enemy is trying to infiltrate into eastern europe, africa, and asia.

This isn't just foreign aid, this is preventing another empire from rising up, and eating your influence, which is really your walls.

My Assyrian grandma lit a candle for Trump every Sunday at church, she loved President Trump and prayed for him constantly. I remember her vividly complaining that the left wouldn’t give Trump a chance, and that she just knew he was a good man with a good heart. We would watch rallies together and although she didn’t understand much English she diligently watched and would crack up when I would translate President Trumps jokes. She sadly passed away in February, I miss her very much. Some could say her dying wish was that President Trump gets re-elected for 4 more years!
