Fun Fact: The dam and resevoir are so large and heavy, it literally slowed the rotation of the earth.

You be hot female ice skater. Do pretty 'spin on big toe' move. Arms legs out, you spin. Arms legs in, you spin faster. Arms legs back out, you spin at original speed.

They raised water 175 meters above sea level, taking the rotational energy of that mass and moving it further from the axis of rotation, meaning the rotational speed decreases.
