It always makes me a little uncomfortable when someone says “thank you for your service” Dont get me wrong, it’s great, but what do you say back that isn’t awkward as hell? Im mean the opposite would be outright hatred of my service and nobody wants to hear that. My goto line in response is usually along the lines of “ um, yeah, thanks, when you are finished getting dressed I will call you an Uber”. That seems to work!
As a civilian, hearing that said to a serviceman has always felt cringe to me too. I mean I totally agree with the sentiment, but at the same time it's also like a virtue signal. In my book, that kind of respect is a given for anyone serving their country.
And uh btw, sincerely, thanks for your service. :)
Pays bills and gets the chicks.
Just kidding don't tell my wife. :)
Hahahaha!! Why did my brain read that in Trump's voice?! Good on ya!
Look folks. A lot of people say "thank you for your service," a lot of people. Some would say it's the best service.

Lmfao.
My go-to is "pays the bills."
It is a weird thing to respond to. "You're welcome" doesn't feel right.
