Tried to tell this to someone recently and she argued it wasn't true. Said you have to be 'very rich,' in order to get that deal. I'm like, wtf? Does anyone know if there a limits on these benefits or if the savings only applies to certain things? If you can help me straighten her out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, pedes.
The "change" here isn't just a series of fiddling regulations: this is a fundamental overhaul of our basic relationship with an entire industry. Almost every pharmaceutical offered in either a clinical or retail pharmacy setting is now to be priced on par with the prices offered to every other developed country.
It does only apply to certain things--namely stuff covered by Medicare, which is just about everything except the incredibly new and groundbreaking treatments (you know, like used by the "very rich"). However, there really aren't limits in that this is market level and not an individual program--you can't use it up or anything like some kind of credit.
Basically, it's exactly what the left has supposedly wanted except cutting out the years of negotiations between their imagined single payer and the pharmaceutical companies, minus the socialism and bad healthcare.
On a more partisan note, suddenly the governments being able to dictate their prices in the socialist healthcare systems is going to be a problem for many. This was a fucking genius move politically in the long term.
Thanks, pede. So anything covered by medicare, except the newest, most cutting edge stuff. Well, she's buying meds for her elderly parents, so those should be included then. Not sure what she's on about. Thanks!
