A lot of the lefties (that I know) Grew up in the eighties and nineties. The GOP after Reagan had left office was...... Not good. You had Republicans and Democrats who wanted to censor media that didn't need to be censored. (I'm talking about things like Twisted Sister, West Virginia, and other songs) You had a super religious Right Wing. And I'm not talking about like, Conservatives that praised Jesus sometimes like GEOTUS. I'm talking like proper almost to the point of annoyance, religious figures. And you had the Democrats, who for the most part, in the 80s and 90s, were kind of normal after they lost to Reagan by such a high margin.
So somebody who grew up in that era of punk rock, the Simpsons, basically any 80s-90s media that played against the "Family values" our government was trying to set was cool. HOWEVER. The lefties (including me) never saw the sort of backslide to Communism happening. I remember the great Atheism awakening that took place on the internet. I also remember when things like Tumblr came around. Or when Social Media first started. I remember when Gay people were sort of making their presence known in the media and on the internet. I remember a lot of this stuff.
However we never noticed like I said, that backslide into socialism and communism until about 2014.... That's when GamerGate took off. Because that's when we realized "Shit, SJWs exist, Communism/socialism is making a comeback, and this isn't the internet of the early 2000s." Like things changed.
I think that's why there are so many lefty Millennials that don't want to admit their backslide into communism, because they just don't want to admit, that things have changed, that the GOP isn't the bad party anymore. They want to live in the world where the GOP is this religious autocracy and that they're going to force Jesus into every home, and why they love the media that plays into that, because they don't want to admit that they're on the wrong side.
