H1-B Visas are necessary but currently done in the benefit of the company. The problem is they pay someone on a H1-B Visa less money then market rate. This pushes salary down and makes it harder for an American to get a job. The solution is simple, the visa should have to pay market rate plus 30% (make it hurt to not hire an American). That way we would be getting the best and brightest and filling the positions where they truly can’t find an American.
And require they announce potential positions and interview to replace all possible H1B- filled positions with Americans on a quarterly basis. Training an American to do the job should be the preferred outcome.
