Not defending him, but, damn, that level of disfunctional obsessing and self-loathing over a woman - and family - who seemed to treat him like sh-t is very sad and doesn't just "come out of nowhere".

I gotta say, without concrete evidence, this just sounds like two estranged addicts competing for 2nd to last place in the family hierarchy. If Hallie can keep Hunter down, she has some standing. Hunter makes it pretty easy by being a sloppy, depressed, drug addled degenerate.
